Former Claridon Township trustee Mary Briggs announced Monday night her candidacy for state representative of the 98th District.

Briggs said she has filed State Representative, 98th District, petitions with the Board of Elections to be in the May 4th primary as a Democrat.

"Since first elected trustee in 1993, I have honorably served my township, my county, and my state," she said in her press release. "I have been a part of solving issues for my constituents and many others outside of my jurisdiction.

"While I am a lifelong Democrat, as a public servant I have and will continue to represent the people regardless of party affiliation, age, sex, or race. I am not only a Second-Amendment Democrat, but also have taken an oath to protect the entire Constitution of the United States and the State of Ohio."

Briggs lost her seat on the Claridon Township Board of Trustees last Nov. 3. She received 218 votes, less than 10 percent of the total cast.
