Very best wishes go out to dear friend Clara Rayl, who turns 96 on Feb. 7. She was born in 1914 and has led a very fulfilling life.

VFW pancake breakfasts
The tapping of the famous Chardon maple trees signals that hot pancakes will be served with genuine Geauga County maple syrup in this neck of the woods. Blueberry, plain and apple pancakes will be flipped onto plates at the own Chardon VFW from 8 a.m. to noon beginning Feb. 7. The public is welcome.
