Wavell O. Spencer-Cruthers, of Burton, passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. She was 80.
Wavell was born on Feb. 23, 1932, in Wayne County, W.Va., daughter of Martin and Florence (nee Canterbury) Caldwell.
She was one of the first employees at Kinetico in Newbury Township. Wavell worked there for over 20 years and was a resident of this area since 1953.
Her hobbies included Bingo and crocheting. She made Afghans for numerous people.
Wavell will be missed dearly by her friends and family, including her husband, Melvin F. Cruthers of 24 loving years; son, Bill (Diane) Spencer of Middlefield; daughter, Carolyn Grassette of Elmira, N.Y.; grandchildren, Crystal (Brian) Yoder of Middlefield, Bill (Amy) Spencer of Rome, and Jennifer (Lance) Ames and Robin (Josh) Bennett, both of Elmira, N.Y.; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Martha Kelly of Virginia, Roger (Juanita) Caldwell of West Virginia, Rosemary Phillips of Brunswick, Bruce (Charlotte) Caldwell of Ohio, and David (Penny) Caldwell of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Billie C. Spencer; parents; and brother, Bernard Caldwell.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 West High St., Middlefield. Pastor Bill Spencer, Jr. will officiate.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Shadyside Cemetery in Auburn Township.
