Edward W. Maltry, of Chardon Township, died Oct. 27, 2012, at his home. He was 91.
Born on June 21, 1921, in Moulton Township, Ohio, Ed lives in Chardon Township since 1945.
Ed was a longtime mechanic for the former Geauga Disposal. After his retirement, he became the janitor for the Chardon Post Office until his retirement from there in 1987.
Edward Maltry married Ida Jane Leyde July 16, 1949. She preceded him in death May 18, 2008.
Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a decorated veteran having served in the Central European Theater, earning two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart.
Ed’s hobby was repairing antique and classic cars for the Loecy family and wood working. Most of the furniture in his home he built.
He was a lifetime member of Chardon VFW Post #6519.
Ed is survived by his children, Jay (Deborah) Maltry Sr. of Chardon Township, Anna (Stephen) Knapp of Michigan, Roger Maltry of Willoughby Hills, Diana (Mark) Finazzo of Painesville, Karen, Sandy and Gary Maltry; grandchildren, Christine Madden, Cheryl Jagger, Jay Maltry Jr., Jeffrey and Ashley Knapp, Christopher (Amanda) Knapp, Catherine and Jennifer Knapp, Mark Hart, Christina (Kenneth) Blystone; great-grandchildren, Matthew Gant, Alexander Jagger, Jonathan and Jacob Blystone; sisters Delores (Hiram) “Hi” Covell Jr. of Chardon Township, Ruth Rossman of Wiloughby; and brothers, Richard “Dick “ (Mary) Maltry of Mentor and Arthur (Kathy) Maltry of Painesville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Jane (nee Leyde) Maltry; parents, William and Clara (nee Heins) Maltry; sister Betty Jean Maltry; and brothers Robert and William Maltry.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. Rev. Robert Gaston, retired, will officiate.
Visitation is Nov. 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place in Chardon Municipal Cemetery, Chardon.
