Louise (nee O’Neill) Alexander died Jan. 26, 2013, peacefully in her sleep. She was 82.
Louise, fondly known by all as Lu Lu, was born Nov. 25, 1930, in Cleveland to Hugh M. and Corinne (nee Frantz) O’Neill. She had been a lifelong area resident.
Lou attended Gesu elementary prior to her graduation from Beaumont High School in 1948. It was there that she established not only lifelong relationships but secured a deep faith and love of the Catholic Church.
Lou earned a bachelor's degree in English from Ursuline College in 1952.
Lou married the late R. Reece Alexander on Jan. 23, 1957, in University Heights. They lived together in Chardon most of their lives, raising five children, and established Legend Lake Golf Club, their family business.
To say Lou was energetic and active throughout her life is considered by all those that knew her as an understatement. However, outside of her family, most people remember Lou from five circles that conveniently connect: Books, Horses, Health Care, Golf and Church.
Lou went to daily mass for most of her life. Catholic simply was her way of life. Gesu, Beaumont, Gilmour Academy, the Church of St. Mary, the Sister’s of Notre Dame all had her on speed dial.
Lou was deeply spiritual and dedicated to the religious communities of Greater Cleveland.
Louise is survived by her children, Mary (Todd) Ray of Munson Township, Martha (George) Happ of Sandy, Utah, Therese (Larry) Smyntek of Orlando, Fla., Patrick (Lisa) Alexander of Chester Township and Lee (Jeff) Carine of Windemere, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Genevieve (Michael) Lyons, Colin, Madeleine and Isaac Ray, Allison and Caitlyn Happ, Mackenzie and Brynn Alexander, Reece, Caleb, Noah, Hannah and Renee Carine; and sister, Queenie Healey of Gates Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four siblings.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 31 at the Church of St. Mary 401 North St., Chardon.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
