James Meeks, of Chardon, died Nov. 28, 2012, at his home. He was 85.
Born Jan. 21, 1927, in Grundy County, Tenn., to Norman and Elizabeth Meeks, he was a longtime area resident.
Jim was a tool and die maker for General Motors and after retirement he delivered flowers for more than 29 years with Weidig’s Floral in Chardon.
He served with the Army during World War II and was a member of VFW Post 6519 in Chardon.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Marcia Cosentino of Syracuse, N.Y., and Barbara Meeks of Chardon; sons, James (Mary) of Tallmadge, Richard (Ramona) of Wickliffe, David (Patricia) of Westlake, Norman of Claridon Township and Steven (Carol Tamblyn) of Eastlake; grandchildren, Zeke, Michael, Zachary, James, Jeffery, David, Mark, Richard, Paul, Stephanie, Sonya, Steven, Christina, Joshua and Elena, who helped care for her grandfather; great grandchildren, Christian and Katelyn; sister Virginia Mcluskie of Novi, Mich.; and brothers Richard and Norman (Carolyn), both of Grundy County, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley (nee Glover); and three brothers and two sisters
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 1 at North Chardon/Protestant Cemetery at the intersection of Painesville-Ravenna and Clark roads in Chardon Township.
Visitation is Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8pm at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
