Roy C. Cooper Sr., of Hambden Township, died Nov. 7, 2012, at his residence. He was 81.
Born March 15, 1931, in Fentress County, Tenn., Roy was a longtime area resident.
A retired steel worker from Coe Manufacturing, he married Lois Smith on Sept. 3, 1957.
Roy served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2261 in Chardon.
He enjoyed gardening and caring for his apple orchard.
Roy is survived by his wife, Lois (nee Smith) Cooper of Hambden; daughters, Betty Sue (Ron) Sustae of Wickliffe and Rebecca Jane (Michael) Powell of Chardon; son, Roy C. (Jennifer) Cooper of Leroy Township; grandchildren, Rebecca (Bernard) Brunsdon, Samantha, Morgan and Sydney Powell, and Josephine Cooper; sisters, Lois Wilson and Judith Owens, both of Tennessee; and brother, Bud Cooper of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Leeva (nee Turner) Cooper; and siblings Joyce Taylor, Daisy Meadows, J.T., Nelson Jr, and Jerry Cooper.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. Visitation is 5:30-8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Private family burial will take place.
