Harold “Hash” L. Reiter, of Munson Township, died Nov. 18, 2012, at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg Township. He was 97.
Born April 14, 1915, in Chester Township,Hash was a lifelong Geauga County resident.
Hash worked for 42 dedicated years at the former Chardon Rubber and Ball Plastics companies in Chardon before his retirement in 1975.
In 1977, he was asked to assume leadership of International Track Systems in Ashtabula. He was president of that company until his second retirement when he was 85 years old in 2000.
Harold Lynn Reiter married Ida Louise Lepper in 1935. They shared many happy years together until her death Aug. 1, 1998.
Hash loved to hunt, fish and golf. He was a “gentleman farmer” for many years. He raised cattle and was known for his maple syrup, until the snow storm of 1996 destroyed the sugar house. His maple syrup was famous at the men’s pancake breakfast during the Geauga County Maple Festival for generations.
He was an active member of Pilgrim Christian Church in Chardon, serving as a deacon and an elder.
Hash also was a charter member of the Chardon Rotary Club and was a “Paul Harris Fellow.”
He is survived by his son, Larry Reiter of Munson; grandchildren, John (Kathryn) Reiter of Solon, Thomas (Jill) Reiter of Harvard, Mass., Kristin (Ted) Amor of New York, N.Y., and Lynn Sommer of Ashville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Justin Shelley, Joshua Reiter, Justine Sommer, and Nathan, Jamie, Mason, Matthew and Ellie Reiter; and sisters Florence Clause of New Jersey and Martha Van Gorder of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida L. Reiter; daughter, Gail Sommer; parents, Lynn and Katherine (nee Sitz) Reiter; and sisters Hilda Joiner and Helen Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 24 at Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 South Hambden St., Chardon. Pastor Chris McCreight of the church will officiate.
Visitation is Nov. 23 from 5-8 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon.
Burial will take place in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township.
