Edward J. Knapik, of Montville Township, died Oct. 12, 2012, at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg Township. He was 86.
Born Oct. 19, 1925 in Starford, Pa., Edward lived 55 years in Montville. He was a valve seater, retiring from TRW Valve Division after 35 years.
Edward served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving overseas, including Germany. After leaving the Army, Edward worked in the Pennsylvania coal mines before going to work for TRW.
He loved mowing and caring for his acres of yard. He took great pride in and was well known for his beautifully maintained property and huge vegetable gardens, which he had his boys help with from a young age.
Edward was independent and could do most anything to take care of the home and his cars. Anyone that knew him will attest that he was a hard, strong and determined worker, values he instilled in his children.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marge (nee Kosticak) of Montville; sons, Edward of Medical Lake, Wash., Kenneth of Montville and Richard of Thompson Township; daughter, Annette Berndt of Olmstead Falls; grandchildren, Sherry and Jake Makowski, Aaron and Dean Knapik; brothers John and Mike; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Lenora (nee Zarenska) Knapik; brothers Alex, Andrew, Joe, Frank and Stanley; and sisters, Ann Hull, Mary Wanchisin and Pauline McClure.
Private family services were held.
