Diane Ryder

Diane Ryder is a former public school teacher who began a second career in journalism by writing local columns for the Western Reserve Chronicle, a weekly based in Middlefield, in 1981.

In the mid 1980s she was the first public relations person for West Geauga Schools, which led to a full-time reporter position with the Geauga Times Leader.

When the GTL closed, she went to the News-Herald, where she worked for the greater part of 20 years both part time and full time.

During some of those years, she also worked for the Delaware Gazette north of Columbus. One day, she had the lead story in both papers on the same day — on different topics.

When the News-Herald cut back on their Geauga County coverage, Diane began working for the Maple Leaf.

She enjoys covering local meetings and informing people about what is going on in their local community.

Diane has been married for 42 years and has two grown daughters, two sons-in-law and two adorable granddaughters. She enjoys babysitting, traveling, photography, history, genealogy and, of course, bargain shopping.
