This year, the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District and the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Auxiliary sponsored the 2014 Conservation Poster Contest. The purpose of the contest is to instill in youth an appreciation for the environment and the need to protect our precious soil and water resources.
The theme was “Dig Deeper-Mysteries in the Soil.” Students were encouraged to express the theme in their posters.
The Geauga SWCD received numerous entries this year, all illustrating outstanding conservation messages. A $30 cash award was given for first place and $25 for second place.
The winners of the contest are: Grades 4-6: first place – Elizabeth Angle of Newbury Elementary School, second place – Emma Spencer of Kenston Intermediate School; Grades 10-12: first place – Timothy Hardon of Berkshire High School, second place – Frank Kaschalk of Berkshire High School.
The first-place winners of each category moved on to the area competition where they had a chance to move on to the state and then national competitions.
Geauga County winners of the 2014 Conservation Poster Contest will be guests of the Geauga SWCD and honored at the annual dinner meeting held at the Geauga Fairgrounds School Building on Nov. 6. Please join the Geauga SWCD in honoring and recognizing these talented youths at the annual meeting.
Congratulations to all the winners of the Geauga SWCD 2014 Conservation Poster Contest and good luck to those moving on to the area competition. All of the posters are available for viewing on the Geauga SWCD website as well as further information on the annual meeting at www.geaugaswcd.com.
