Free Fresh Produce

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway on Aug. 9 from 9-11 a.m. The events will continue the second Saturday of each month through November.

Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Celtic Concert at The Pines

The Celtic Union Band will perform high-spirited Irish folk music Aug. 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Pines at Brooks House Assisted Living located at 18122 Claridon-Troy Road, Hiram, in Troy Township. An ice cream social will follow.

GOP Picnic

The annual Geauga County Republican Picnic presented by the Geauga County Republican Women and Geauga County Republican Party takes place Aug. 3 from 2-6 p.m. at Sunnybrook Preserve, 12474 Heath Road in Chester Township. Guest speaker is Nancy McArthur, GOP chairwoman.

Cost is $10 per person or $15 per couple. Children are free.

GI Get-Together

The Burton-Middlefield American Legion Post 459 is hosting a GI get-together Aug. 9, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Legion home located at 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter

Rescue Village and PetFix Northeast Ohio mobile surgical van have teamed up to help stop pet overpopulation with Fix it in the Farmland. The program provides low cost spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs and is available to low income and Amish families; qualifications apply.

One does not have to live in Geauga County to use the clinics.

A clinic will take place Aug. 22 at Clara’s Cross Cut Country Store, 16161 Nash Road in Middlefield Cost is $15 per animal.

Trash and Treasure Sale

Parkman Congregational Church is holding its annual Trash and Treasure Sale July 31 to Aug. 1 at the church located at 18265 Madison Road. Hours are Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shoppers enjoy half off specials Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon and then everything is free from 12:30-3 p.m.

Civic Club Ox Roast

The third annual Community Ox Roast sponsored by the Bainbridge Civic Club will be held Aug. 2 from 12:30-6 p.m. at Centerville Mills Park, 8558 Crackel Road. Guests will be able to roam the 163-acre township park during the afternoon and enjoy field games, bounce house and dunk tank.

A family fun run/walk will start at 11:30 a.m. Call Justin Ryan at 440-543-6995 to register. Proceeds support Food for Friends and high school scholarships.

Tickets for adult meals are $20. A child’s hot dog meal for youth 12 and under is $6.

Groundbreaking Celebration

Geauga Humane Society is set to expand the Rescue Village shelter and clinic. Come and celebrate the official groundbreaking for the Raising the Roof to Save More Lives building campaign on Aug. 5 from 7-8:30 p.m. at 15463 Chillicothe Road in Russell Township.

All who attend will have the opportunity to put a personal message in the time capsule, see the outline of the new space, dedicate a scoopful of earth to help animals or take a tour of the current facility. Simple refreshments will be available.

Chardon Toastmasters Move

The Chardon Toastmasters look forward to welcoming guests at their new location. The group now meets every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Munson Township Hall at 12210 Auburn Road. Guests are welcome at any time.

Woofstock 2014

Rescue Village will hold Woofstock 2014 Sept. 21 at Holden Arboretum. The event is the largest one-day, outdoor fundraising festival for dogs and their people in Northeast Ohio.

Activities include a one-mile dog walk, dog-friendly shopping and canine contests. There will be adoptable pets and the annual Blessing of the Animals at 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

Parking is $10; all proceeds will be donated to Rescue Village.
