Geauga Tea Party

The Geauga County Tea Party will host a discussion of Common Core at the next meeting of the Geauga County Tea Party taking place at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township. Hear from parents and teachers who have experienced Common Core and from Ohio officials who have studied it in depth.

Tri-County Coin Club

The Tri-County Coin Club will meet Aug. 14 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road in Chardon. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. followed by a business meeting at 7:15 p.m. and a 50-plus-lot coin auction, door prizes, coin displays, raffle and 50/50 drawing.

Chardon Rubber Picnic

The fifth annual Chardon Rubber employee picnic will be held Sept. 6, from 1-4 p.m., in the Deep Woods Pavilion at Big Creek Park, 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon.

Bring a dish to pass and beverage. There will be a Chinese auction. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Donations for the auction are appreciated.

Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market

The Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market is celebrating National Farmers’ Market Week the week of Aug. 3. Come to the market, mention this message and get a free market bag to carry home one’s purchases, while supplies last.

The corn celebration is Aug. 23. There will be samples of corn with a variety of seasonings to try and vendors will have various products.

Conservative Forum Meets

The Geauga Conservative Forum will sponsor a conversation with Congressman David Joyce on Aug. 18 from 7-8 p.m. at the Geauga West Public Library, 13455 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. It is an opportunity to hear Joyce speak on important issues and for citizens to ask questions on issues facing the nation. Seats are limited; R.S.V.P. to Ryan@joyceforcongress.com.

The second part of the program will be ACT! for America with Dan Hromada and Beverly Goldstein speaking on the “Threat from Within.”

Free Fresh Produce

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway on Aug. 9 from 9-11 a.m. The events will continue the second Saturday of each month through November.

Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Celtic Concert at The Pines

The Celtic Union Band will perform high-spirited Irish folk music Aug. 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Pines at Brooks House Assisted Living located at 18122 Claridon-Troy Road, Hiram, in Troy Township. An ice cream social will follow.

VFW Chinese Auction

The Chardon VFW Ladies Auxiliary will host a Chinese auction Aug. 9 from 12-3 p.m. at VFW Post 6519, 752 Water St., located across from Sage’s Apples.

The annual Munson Township Outdoor Flea Market will be held Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Munson Township Park, 12641 Bass Lake Road.

Troy Homecoming Festival

Troy Homecoming, a free community festival, will be held Aug. 8-10 at the grounds of the Troy Community Center, 13950 Main Market Road, Welshfield.

A century old tradition, the festival includes live entertainment, parade, Amish bake sale, contests, raffle, corn hole, talent show and more.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter

Rescue Village and PetFix Northeast Ohio mobile surgical van have teamed up to help stop pet overpopulation with Fix it in the Farmland. The program provides low cost spay and neuter surgeries for cats and dogs and is available to low income and Amish families; qualifications apply. One does not have to live in Geauga County to use the clinics.

A clinic will take place Aug. 22 at Clara’s Cross Cut Country Store, 16161 Nash Road in Middlefield Cost is $15 per animal. For more info and to prequalify, call Joan Lax at 440-338-4819 ext. 21.

Emerald Rose Zucchini Festival

The third annual Zucchini Festival presented by the Emerald Rose Corp. will be held Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Chardon Square. Free and open to the public, the event features a variety of activities suited to the entire family.

There will be a zucchini cook-off and growing and decorating contests, as well as the first annual Zucchini Idol talent contest Saturday afternoon. Auditions for the idol talent contest will be held Aug. 9 in the Chardon Library from noon to 4:30 p.m. Entry fee is $10.

Proceeds benefit the capital campaign for the Emerald Fields of Troy, a planned $4 million facility serving people impaired with mental disorders.
