VFW Veterans Day Event

State Treasurer and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Josh Mandel will be the keynote speaker at the Chardon Veterans Day ceremony being held at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 on the Chardon Courthouse steps in Chardon Square. Chardon V.F.W. Post 167 will preside over the event.

Free Fresh Produce

Newbury United Community Church, 14961 Auburn Road, will be hosting a fresh produce giveaway on Nov. 8 from 9-11 a.m. The last distribution will be Nov 8.

Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID and bags.

Veterans Day Service

A Veterans Day event will be held Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Geauga Veterans Monument. Speaker will be Blake Rear, Vietnam veteran and Geauga County commissioner. American Legion of Burton will provide the chaplain and honor band. For information, call Paul A. Newman at 440-286-9549.

Lions Club Reverse Raffle

Chardon Lions Club will host its annual reverse raffle Nov. 15 from 5:30-10:30 p.m. at Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites/LaMalfa, 5783 Heisley Road in Mentor. Event includes dinner, dancing, open bar and Chinese auction. Grand prize is $2,500 with several consolation prizes.

Tickets are $125 per couple, $75 per person and $50 for raffle only. All proceeds go back to the community.

First Friday Dinner

St. Patrick’s Church, 16550 Rock Creek Road in Thompson, will hold its First Friday Dinner Nov. 7 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The food court will feature burger, hot dog, chili, rib, sub, salad, side and dessert bars. Tickets for the bars are $1 each and will be sold at the door. No reservations needed. Profits will go toward fixing the church sidewalks.

St. Anselm Christmas Boutique

St. Anselm’s Women’s Guild is sponsoring its annual Christmas Boutique Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at St. Anselm Church, 13013 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

The boutique features more than 80 area vendors, snack bar, bake sale and Chinese raffle. Admission is $1 and includes one raffle ticket.

Join the holiday Boutique Bounce on Nov. 7 and 8 by also stopping at Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland and St. Mark Lutheran Church at 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township on the same day. Pick up a card at the first stop and have it stamped at each show for a chance to win one of three gift baskets. Drawing will be Nov. 9 at which time the winners will be notified.

Gift of Magi Boutique

The annual Gift of Magi holiday boutique is Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 11900 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township. The boutique features hundreds of handcrafted items by 30 vendors.

A preview party for adults only will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. Nov. 7. The $5 admission includes preview of boutique, hors d’oeuvres and wine. Call 440-729-1688 for more information.

Veterans Day Events

Burton-Middlefield American Legion Post 459 will hold a Veterans Day service in the Newbury Elementary School auditorium on Nov. 11 from 9-11 a.m. For more information, call Bo at 440-834-8764.

Then, from 4:30-7 p.m., Post 459 will host an open house soup and chili dinner at the legion home located at 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton.

Genealogical Society Meets

The Geauga County Genealogical Society will meet Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at Chardon Public Library, 110 E. Park St.

Wally Huskonen will present “An Overview of Military Records Research” following the business meeting. The program is free and all are welcome.

Pancakes At The Grange

Hambden Grange 2482 is serving an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with maple syrup, corn fritters, fruit, sausage, juice, cocoa and coffee on Nov. 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 pm. at the Grange located at 9778 Old State Road in Chardon.

Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

President Garfield’s Life Explored

The Bainbridge Historical Society will hear David Lintern, a national park service volunteer, talk about the election of James A. Garfield and his subsequent assassination in 1881 on Nov. 12 at Bainbridge Town Hall, 17826 Chillicothe Road. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The public, including students, is invited. Refreshments will be served. No R.S.V.P. required.

Holiday Country Fair

Enjoy a day of holiday shopping in the country at a collaborative event featuring local talent, Amish craftsman and direct sales vendors. The second annual event will take place Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 30 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Red Maple Inn at 14707 South Cheshire St. in Burton.

Unique gifts, stocking stuffers, local crafts, chocolates and more will be available to purchase or custom order.

Every vendor will donate one item to go into a basket that will be raffled off to one lucky winner. Proceeds will go to Sponsor-A-Family in Geauga County.

Chardon Kiwanis Trivia Night

The Kiwanis Club of Chardon is hosting its seventh annual Trivia Night at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Kirtlander Party Center, 9270 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland. Cost is $25 per person; maximum of eight players per team. Event is BYOB.

Dog Warden Seeks Donations

The Geauga County Dog Warden needs some dog food (canned and dry), bleach, Dawn (blue) and hot dogs (to hide pills). They get in more than 700 dogs a year. Any unused flea or dog medications can be used, as well.

The Geauga County Dog Warden is at 12513 Merritt Road in Chardon. They can be reached at 440-286-8135. The office is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Stuff the Van

Junction Auto Sales is hosting a Stuff The Van event to benefit Geauga County Job and Family Services through Dec. 10. Donations of new toys and clothing and nonperishable foods can be dropped off at Junction Auto Sales GMC or Chrysler buildings.

Monetary donations will also be accepted. Make checks payable to Special Services and include Sponsor a Family in the memo portion of the check.

Community Support at Mary Yoder’s

Mary Yoder’s Amish Kitchen is hosting a Chinese auction benefit Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. All proceeds will support Shop With a Cop and the food pantry in Middlefield. Bidding is from 3-5 p.m.; the drawing begins at 5 p.m.

Trip to Christmas City

St. Anselm Young of Heart will visit “Christmas City,” Bethlehem, Pa., Dec. 10-12. There will be a guided tour of Bethlehem by Night, a factory tour of Martin Guitar, the Christmas Putz at the Central Moravian Church and more.

Included are five meals, two nights of rooms at the Sands Resort & Casino with $60 free slot play, luggage handling and gratuities. Cost is $365 for members and $374 for nonmembers. Everyone is welcome. All trips leave from St. Anselm Church in Chester Township.

Craft Show Vendors Needed

Auburn Community Church, 11076 Washington St., is hosting a creative arts and craft show Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Craft vendors may reserve 8-foot tables for $10. Crafter supplies their own table covering and wares.

Free Breakfast

The men of Ledgewood Christian Church, 8261 Kinsman Road, Russell Township, are hosting a free breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m. Nov. 15.

Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links and orange juice are on the menu, along with milk and coffee.

Barn Treasures Party

The Barn Treasures of Middlefield, 15264 Kinsman Road, is hosting a Christmas holiday party Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event includes hourly door prizes with a chance at a grand prize for answering a trivia question correctly.

The barn will be dressed in its holiday decor and loaded with quality consignor items of all varieties as well as new gift items from its team of Ohio artisans

Fowler’s Mill Harvest Dinner

Fowler’s Mill Christian Church, 10755 Mayfield Road in Munson, will host a free harvest dinner Nov. 15. A Chinese auction fundraiser to benefit Operation Christmas Child and a chair lift for the church will follow the 6 p.m. dinner.

Suggested donation for auction paddles is $5. Tickets are 10 for $1.
