Hello from Geauga County Amish Country,

A new year has begun and winter is here also. It was a cold Monday morning, and the wood and Eco-bric pile is going down fast.

Our family Christmas get together was a son Mark’s on Jan. 6. We had the main meal at noon and then games were played by the young and old. For the supper meal, we had oyster stew, ham and many snacks. Later, we spent the evening singing and visiting. Dad (Joe) was missed very much, as this was one of his favorite holidays.

On Jan. 2, son Ray and Judy, daughter Dan Sylvia, Noah and Barb Yutzy, sister Elmina, Mahlon Byler, Gert and I went to visit our niece Jonas Miller Edna Mae in Troutville, Pa. She is very sick with cancer. We found her feeling a little better.

The evening of June 2, son Richards and son Waynes and their families, son Ray, Allen Ray and Maria, son-in-law Dan, Chester and I surprise son Perry for his birthday. Ice cream, cake, snacks and drinks were served.

On Jan. 14, the blood drive will he held here at our shop on the corner of Shedd Road and Route 168. Blood is urgently needed, so all who can donate are welcome to come.

The baby of Crist and Maurine Hershberger was able to come home on Jan. 5 after being in Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital for 10 weeks. He was a preemie but seems to be doing well.

The evening of Jan. 8, Crist and Clara Hershberger, Crist and Ada Yoder and I joined the family of Mrs. Levi Saloma Miller for Saloma’s 80th birthday, which was on Jan. 5. All her children were there except son Melvins and daughter Saloma and Al. We had a very enjoyable evening. Levi Jr. (Stef) is doing much better after being in the hospital twice.

Sunday evening company at daughter Sylvia and Dan’s were their daughter Rosanna, Aden and three children, and son Danny Ray and Betty Miller.

Mel Raber is not feeling well. Also, his single sister Barbara had surgery and was later rushed to the hospital needing blood transfusions. We hope they are doing better.

Vermont Winter Diary

Oct. 14 – Moved to Vermont, beautiful fall weather. Can’t wait till it snows.

Oct. 31 – It’s really cooling off, but no snow yet. Can’t wait till it does.

Nov. 3 – It snowed 6 inches. It’s beautiful. I just love it.

Nov. 6 – Had 2 feet of snow, had to shovel out driveway. It’s beautiful. I just love it.

Nov. 20 – Had another 3 feet of snow. Had to shovel out driveway. Just when we got done, snowplow comes through and had to do it again. But, it’s beautiful and I love it here.

Dec. 15 – It’s been snowing every day for a while and had another foot of that white stuff this morning. Every time we shovel out driveway, snowplow goes and we have to do it again.

Jan. 10 – Finally got to town today, first time in two weeks. Don’t have any idea where all that white stuff comes from.

Jan. 28 – Had another 3 feet of that white stuff. That snowplow man must sit behind the curve until he sees we got driveway cleaned, then comes through and pushed it shut again.

Feb. 17 – We’re shoveling that white stuff every day, stupid snow.

Feb. 24 – Had another 2 feet of that white stuff. Snowplow got stuck coming around the curve then had the nerve to come here and ask for a shovel. I told him, “I broke six shovels cleaning out snow you pushed back in! Stupid snow.”

Can’t wait till spring.
