Park Carnival

The Park PTO Carnival is set for April 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at Park Auditorium on Chardon Square. There will be games, a bouncy house, cake walk, concessions, a new prize redemption room, silent auction, Chinese raffle and a classroom theme basket raffle.

Everyone is welcome, so invite friends and family for an afternoon of fun.

Hidden in Plain Sight

Join Chardon High School on April 14 for Hidden in Plain Sight, an important teen risky behavior awareness program for parents and other adults. The Hidden in Plain Sight exhibit “Snoop & Search” starts at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation at 6:30 p.m.

All teens are exposed to peer pressure and temptation. By educating ourselves, we can work together to help them deal with these issues and avoid dangerous habits and situations.

The interactive exhibit is designed to resemble a teenager’s bedroom containing more than 150 items that could be indicative of dangerous, risky behaviors. Topics include substance use, violence, eating disorders, juvenile crime, technology, risky games challenges and more. A PowerPoint presentation and discussion accompanies the program.

Due to the nature of the presentation, no youth will be permitted to attend. This program is presented by the Bath Township and Copley Township police departments with assistance from the Chardon and Burton police departments.

For more information, email Chardon’s School Resource Officer Mike Shaw, of Chardon Police Department, at chs.sro@chardonschools.org.

CHS Wrestling Wrap-Up

Congratulations to Chardon High School wrestlers Devin Johnson and Matt Klingbergs who both qualified for the OHSAA State Wrestling tournament this past month. Devin, a senior, qualified by winning a district title and Matt qualified by placing third in the district tournament. Both were also sectional champions. Devin Johnson went on to earn All-Ohio honors by placing eighth in the state at 195 pounds. While Matt Klingbergs did not place at state, he earned All-Ohio Academic honors for carrying an outstanding 4.0 GPA.

CHS Academic Decathlon

The Chardon Academic Decathlon team recently participated in the state competition at John Carroll University, where team members brought home 16 medals. Congrats to team members David Nedrow, Chad Skerbec, Abbie Greene, Jem Shaffer, Jackie Schlag, Noah Bena, Megan Schlag, Gwen Norsic and Anjaleigh Hart.

Junior David Nedrow was one of five students at states chosen for the speech showcase. The team’s advisor is CHS English teacher Allen Herner.

Academic Decathlon encourages enthusiasm for learning by acknowledging academic excellence among high school students of different achievement levels by providing local, regional and state multidisciplinary academic competitions. Teams of nine students compete in 10 areas: art, economics, essay, interview, literature, mathematics, music, science, social science and speech, which are based on a relevant and challenging theme each year. Participants take multiple choice exams in the seven academic areas of the competition. For the three interpersonal areas of the competition, students deliver a prepared and an impromptu speech, participate in an interview and write an essay.
