Chardonite Earns Top Ranking
George Roudebush traveled 360 miles to Frankfurt, Ky., to compete in the state’s senior games. As a result, he earned the number one ranking in the United States for the 85 and over in the following categories based on best times for the year. He was first in the 80-meter hurdles, first in the high jump, first in the steeple chase, and he earned first place honors in the 2013 USA Masters Track and Field Rankings.
George is 88 years young. Congratulations, George. His dog Trick also took first place in recent field trials in a competition in Wooster
Pilgrim CC Clothing Giveaway
Members of the community in need of gently used clothing, shoes, coats, furnishings, books, boots and more are welcome to attend a giveaway Oct. 18 and 19 beginning at 9 a.m. at Pilgrim Christian Church, 202 S. Hambden St. in Chardon.

Free Dinner at Claridon Church
A free dinner at the Claridon Congregational Church will be held Oct. 15 from 5-6 p.m. Donations are welcome. The dinner is put on by community members the third Tuesday of every month.
Fall Scavenger Hunt
Children of all ages are invited to enjoy a fall scavenger hunt at the Chardon Giant Eagle on Oct. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. Children will find clues around the store to help them find treats and healthy snacks. The final stop will be at the children’s Eagle’s Nest.
The event is free. Costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory.
Cooking With Housing Coalition
The first annual Geauga County “Cooking with the Housing Coalition” fundraiser, featuring the culinary tips of Chef Amy Ryan, will be held Oct. 25 at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road in Chesterland. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. and a Chinese auction.
Happy Birthdays
John Hollo, manager at Chardon’s Dunkin Donuts, recently celebrated his birthday. He is of Finnish descent and is a truly nice guy.
Janet Rayl will celebrate her birthday on Oct. 15.
Comment For The Day
The weather continues to fluctuate, but the trees have committed to turning their leaves the beautiful colors of fall. The community welcomes in the fall festivities of pumpkin festivals, church dinners and Halloween knowing full well that the changes in fall foliage also means colder weather is on its way.
