Cinco de Mayo Celebration
Kindergartners in Mrs. Mary Wollenberg and Mrs. Carol Mead’s class celebrated a festive Cinco de Mayo on May 3. Children made colorful sombreros and vests. They enjoyed a pinata stuffed with candy treats and Mexican appetizers, such as chips and taco sauce.
First Holy Communion
St. Helen Church celebrated First Holy Communion with 44 second-graders on May 4. It was a day filled with sunshine and happy faces as the second-graders received Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time joined by their families and friends.
Fr. Jay McPhillips, pastor of St. Helen Church, reminded the children and all present to stay focused on the most important truth in our lives, that we are here to know, love and serve God. Nothing else in life has greater value. Families continued the celebration across Geauga County, remembering the significance of the day in their child’s life.
St. Helen School teacher Hope Bartholomew helped prepare the second-graders by working tirelessly with Mrs. Mary Wanner, Sister Bernadette Marie and Mrs. Maria Flauto. She helped make it a memorable day.
