Happy New Year
The new year is upon us and it’s time to make those famous and sometimes forgettable New Year resolutions. I’ve been making the same ones for years and it’s time for them to stick.
Experts recommend formulating realistic goals. They can be either too easy, and thus not a challenge, or too difficult, and thus not achievable, so finding the magic middle is a true goal.
“Janu” for January is a two-faced mythical character that faces both backwards (2013) and forwards (2014), so let’s look forward to a great year for everyone and God bless each and every one of you.
Happy Birthday Wishes
Heather Penrod and Paul Hederstrom celebrate their birthdays this week.
Congratulations also go out to Lynn and Vern Kempf on the birth of their new grandson. Best wishes to their son and family on this blessed addition.
Rosary Rally Jan. 11
The public is invited to make public reparation for sin at the Rosary Rally at noon Jan. 11 at the gazebo on Chardon Square. Dress for the weather and bring a chair, if necessary.
First Gulf War Bonuses
Veterans who fought in the first Gulf War from August 1990 to 1991 are eligible for a $1,000 bonus or $500 for those who served elsewhere. Families who tragically lost a loved one during the Gulf War are also eligible for an Ohio Veterans stipend, but all need to apply for by Dec. 31.
God bless all who have served and their families as well.
Purchase a Lake Metroparks Farmpark Membership Online

Farmpark Toy Workshop
Lake Farmpark is holding a toy workshop Dec. 26 through Dec. 31 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children ages 2 to 11 can select a wooden toy to build and sit down with one of Santa’s elves to put the toy together. The children then paint and glitter their new toy. Farmpark admission is required plus $2 per toy.
Chardon Library Closed
The Chardon Public Library will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
Amish Country Field Trip
The Blackbrook Audubon Society will travel to Best Lake in Amish country at 9 a.m. Jan. 18 to view wintering raptors and other visitors to the area. In years past, the group has been fortunate enough to find rough-legged hawks and a few other species of raptors. Snow buntings and Lapland longspurs have also been located on most trips as well as Wilson’s snipe and Eastern meadow lark. Come prepared for the weather and bring a scope.
For more information, call Jim at 440-257-2507.
Visit www.blackbrookaudubon.org for weather cancellations or listen to the I-Alert system on WKYC-TV 3, wkyc.com and Newsradio WTAM 1100 AM, wtam.com.
Comment For The Day
I hope everyone is enjoying special times with family and friends and remembering the reason for the season, the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Stay safe and may the new year be the best ever. God bless everyone.
I attended a children’s pageant at the Chardon Methodist Church and the church was packed with members as well as Chardon family and friends who enjoyed a unique program expressing love of the nativity scene and the accompanying Bible scripture. Thank you to all who directed and helped participate in the event and to the Allenby girls who sang so beautifully.
