Flockmasters

The Flockmasters 4-H Club has been busy. At the May meeting, members learned about proper medication techniques and tools for giving different medicine to sheep. They also learned safety tips for when they find wild animals and stray pets.

The club is collecting denim clothing to be shredded for insulation through Blue to Green, and old tennis shoes for Nike Reuse-a-Shoe.

A mini-club lamb camp was held to learn how to halter break and show lambs and have them shorn. Some members will be going to 4-H Camp, as both campers and counselors, later this month. And, club members are counting down to the Great Geauga County Fair. (Submitted by Amanda OReilly, news reporter)

Geauga Dairymen

The Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club held a meeting on June 3 at Hastings Dairy. The group toured the dairy. The official meeting started with a salute to the flag and the 4-H pledge. The club voted to donate money to the Hare Raiser 4-H Clubs food-a-thon.

The advisor and members discussed skillathon, which is on July 13 at the Geauga Fairgrounds in the Junior Fair barn from 9-11 a.m. Project books must be completed and brought to the skillathon.

The members discussed some possible themes for the Dairy Basket that will be sold at the Geauga County Fair. The junior fairs theme is Junior Fair: Summers Hottest Ticket. The members voted to purchase three fans to keep animals cool during the fair and Geauga Dairymen T-shirts to wear during the fair.

After the meeting ended, many of the members stayed to practice for skillathon, which included identifying dairy breeds and dairy feeds and identifying parts of the cow.

The next meeting will be held July 9.
