The Geauga Dairymen 4-H Club held a meeting and family pool party on Aug. 4 at the Niehus home. The meeting began with a salute to the flag and the 4-H pledge.
The County Fair is approaching so the majority of the meeting focused on preparing for fair. Members reviewed the buyer letter to be mailed to potential buyers of the clubs dairy basket. The theme of the basket is Geauga County is Dairy-Delicious.
Club leader Emma distributed several handouts explaining preparations for fair, supplies needed, barn duty, fair rules, cattle feed and bedding, show day routine and member responsibilities during fair week. Fair entry forms were completed. Members voted for a Junior Fair king and queen. The club will assist Farm Bureau by helping in its booth during the fair.
After the meeting was completed, members watched a dairy cattle showing video. Then, they participated in a practice showmanship class with their project animals. When the work was finished, the members had fun swimming and enjoying a barbecue together.
The club members will meet at the Fairgrounds at 11 a.m. Aug. 25 to set up for the fair. Animals will be moved into the fair on Aug. 28.
