Great Pitch Paul
Paul Newman, Hambden resident and Geauga County Library board member, did an amazing job of throwing out the first pitch at last Friday’s Cleveland Indians baseball game against the Texas Rangers. Paul’s first pitch was the only one to send that ball right over home plate.
During the sixth to ninth innings, it would have been great if the Indians had called on Paul to pitch. Luckily, the closer shut down the Rangers and a game-winning three-run home run sealed the deal in the 11th inning.
It was a beautiful night for Geauga County Public Library’s night at the stadium. Hope to do it again next year. Great job, Paul.
Zoning Commission Vacancy
There is an opening as an alternate on the Hambden Township Zoning Commission. If a resident is interested, please contact the township office at 440-286-4364. Lauri or MaryAnn will provide the details.
Hambden Community Picnic
There will be two quilts to auction at this year’s picnic. Both have been made by fiscal officer Laura Chorman. The traditional quilt will be one that everyone can buy chances to win. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5.
The other quilt is very special. It is a quilt made to honor Hambden veterans. Any Hambden veteran or active service man or woman from Hambden is invited to put his or her name in the free drawing. Both quilts are absolutely beautiful.
The picnic is Aug. 11 from 1-5 p.m. at the township park. There will be entertainment by Banjo the Clown and the band Terminal Blues will be playing a mix of classic contemporary rock and the blues in the bandstand.
There will be a Chinese auction, children’s games, a bakery walk, ice cream sundaes and prizes for children of all ages. The fire department will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs and there will be free popcorn and snow cones.
To donate an item for the Chinese auction, call Nadine at 440-286-3273 or drop it off at the township hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
Thanks in advance for everyone’s assistance in making this a great picnic.
Township Newsletter
The quarterly township newsletter is in the mail. Some residents have called saying they haven’t been getting it. Please call the township hall at 440-286-4364 and let us know. We will be sure to get you on the mailing list.
I’ll know they should have arrived when I get mine, so I’ll let everyone know. Never can tell how long they’ll take to get to us, depends on if they get sent to Cleveland first and have to come back to Chardon. Hopefully they will get delivered before the picnic because there is much information included.
