Hambden Elementary’s 90th Birthday Celebration
Help Chardon Schools celebrate Hambden Elementary School’s 90 years on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. The doors will be open to welcome former students and teachers, as well as current faculty, students and their families and friends, plus anyone else with an interest in history.
The district has been collecting class pictures, memorabilia and other artifacts to display. The educational journey starts with displays in the gym, from the first school organized in 1809 that was held in a log cabin near the corner of routes 608 and 6 to the current brick building and classes today.
Parking will be at the school, the Hambden town hall and the township park across the street.
If anyone has any Hambden Elementary memorabilia that he or she would like to add to the display, please drop it off in the school office. Or send an email with the subject line “Hambden Celebrates” to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Special thanks goes to the Chardon Schools Foundation for funding this important event.
Substitute Help Wanted in School Cafeterias
Chardon Local Schools Food Service maintains a list of substitutes to be called in when the regular employees are out. Substitutes are a vital part of the program. Using subs gives the cafeteria the help that it needs when employees are unable to work and lets the subs explore job opportunities with the Chardon Local Schools Food Service department.
Cafeteria substitutes are called to fill in for absent employees and work as needed. There are no guaranteed days or hours. Salary is $9 per hour.
Applications are available at the School Administration Building, 428 North St., located next to Chardon Middle School.
Chardon Schools are happy to welcome back its students and staff. We hope everyone had a good summer and is ready for a great new school year.
Getting involved in a child’s education pays off in many ways. Most importantly, it shows children that parents and caregivers value learning.
The schools hope everyone can join us for the open houses scheduled in the coming weeks.
Open houses are: Maple Elementary, Sept. 4; Hambden Elementary grades 3-5, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m.; Munson Elementary grades K-2 and Mrs. Graziano’s class, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.; Hambden Elementary grades K-2, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m.; Munson Elementary for Mr. Buemi, Mrs. Sobodosh, grades 4-5, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.; and Park Elementary, Sept. 19.
Welcome New Administrators
In addition to the district’s new superintendent Michael P. Hanlon Jr., the Board hired Ted Roseberry as the district’s business manager, replacing outgoing operations manager Dana Stearns. Mr. Roseberry joins Chardon from Painesville City Schools.
A graduate of the University of Kentucky, Mr. Roseberry’s past educational roles have included intervention specialist, resource center coordinator, transportation director, facilities director, business manager and football coach. He and his wife, Jen, have two children, son Sam and daughter Lily, and make their home in Mentor.
Chardon High School has a new assistant principal, Doug Murray, who takes over for Michael Sedlak, who moved on to the Hudson Schools. Mr. Murray (CHS ’96) joins the high school from Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, where he taught theology, coached baseball and led the school’s student leadership organizations.
A graduate of St. Vincent College, in Latrobe, Pa., Mr. Murray and his wife Jen (CHS ’96) have two daughters, Sydney and Savannah. The family resides in Chardon.
Over the next few weeks, Mr. Roseberry and Mr. Murray, along with the rest of the administrative team, will be focused on getting the school year off to a smooth start for all students. If anyone sees Mr. Roseberry and Mr. Murray out and about, be sure to extend them a warm Chardon welcome.
