Memorial Day Observance
Hambden Township’s annual Memorial Day observance was held May 26. There are so many people to thank; it’s hard to know where to begin.
First, let me thank Carolyn Cianfaglione for serving as this year’s parade marshal. She and her husband Andy rode in the convertible driven by Dale Smith and loaned to us by Junction Auto Sales.
The bands were awesome. Thank you to the Geauga Highlanders, Great Geauga County Fair Band and the Chardon High Marching Band for their wonderful and meaningful performances.
Thanks also go to Geauga County Commissioner Blake Rear for his very poignant speech at Hambden Congregational Church. Thanks go to Pastor Dove and Pastor Boern for their prayers and Arthur Semlow for his rendition of the Gettysburg Address.
Thank you so much to Dr. Larry Sangrik for taking care of the sound and video at Hambden Congregational Church and to Bill Gertz for once again reading the names of Hambden’s fallen veterans.
A huge thank you to Dave Heald, Dan Brazis, Rich Edelinsky, Barrie Bishop and Eric Germovsek for participating in the parade and making sure the grounds were in wonderful shape. Of course, the parade would never happen without Harley Smith to make sure everyone was correctly lined up in place.
Thank you to everyone who participated and who I might have missed thanking. It was a wonderful morning to remember those who have given so much for all of us.
Township Hall Rental
The township hall is available to Hambden residents to rent at a cost of $25 per day. Identification is required.
There is also a security deposit required when picking up the building key. This deposit is returned as long as the renter removes the trash from the premises and leaves the building as it was found. A signed rental agreement is required to secure a date of use.
If anyone is interested in renting the township hall for an event, please call the office at 440-286-4364 or stop in to check for availability. Please note that no smoking or alcoholic beverages are permitted in the facility.
Hambden Community Picnic
The Bondstown Bash, Hambden’s community picnic, will take place Aug. 10 from 1-5 p.m. There will be live music, a Chinese auction, games, prizes and food. Banjo the Clown will once again be entertaining everyone with his magic and awesome balloon creations.
Any local business owner who would like to make a donation to the Chinese auction can contact the township hall at 440-286-4364. In addition, the planning committee is always looking for baskets to use for auction items. To donate an item, just give us a call or drop it off.
Be sure to come and join in on the fun.
Concert In The Park
The township will host its Concert in the Park July 20 from 4-6 p.m. at Hambden Township Park.
Performing this year will be the Northern Comfort Band, a roots country band dedicated to bringing the classic sounds of traditional country music to today’s audiences. The quartet is from Northeast Ohio and draws its influence from American music icons like Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.
Formed in 2007, the band has been playing its brand of foot stomping, honky tonk music to pleased audiences across the region. Whether it’s straight up country or hopped-up swing, the band will put a smile on everyone’s face and a spring in one’s two-step.
We always like to hear from our residents. If you have something you would like to let your friends and neighbors know about, whether it is a new business, meeting or special occasion, email Nadine Pope at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to hearing from you.
