Hammer City Hot Rods Reunion and Car Show July 28
Rich Vyse, of Brookfarm Designs, invites all cars, trucks and bikes to the Hammer City Hot Rods 2013 Reunion and Car Show July 28, beginning at 2 p.m. The show is in remembrance of Wilson “Fish” Fisher (1929-2013). It will take place at 10891 Mayfield Road in Chardon.
Burgers and dogs will be grilled by Studebaker Rich. Please bring a plate to pass. There will be games and prizes and pin striping by Menke. DJ Music will be by Rockadile Production.

Chardon Kiwanis Meets July 25
Members of Chardon Kiwanis will meet on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Big Creek Park for a delicious picnic dinner and business meeting. Individuals interested in joining a wonderful organization that supports community projects, including college scholarships, as well as mission statements to support international health projects should contact any member, including myself. The group’s major fundraiser is selling maple products in the Log Cabin before and during the Maple Festival.
GOP Golf Outing, Picnic
The Geauga County Grand Old Party will host two events in July. The GOP golf outing is July 26 at Legend Lake Country Club.
The very popular GOP annual picnic, sponsored by the Geauga County Republican Women and the Geauga County Republican Party, will be held on July 28 at Patterson’s Farm. Check with Ed Ryder or Jan Blair for more information.
Swamp Boogie Band in Concert
Check out the “Concert Series in the Park” on Chardon Square July 26. Kiwanis will supervise the event from 7-9 p.m. as The Swamp Boogie Band entertains the public with oldies, but goodies.
Also, check out the farmer’s market from 4-8:30 p.m. on Short Court Street with delicious hot foods, Amish pastries, fresh vegetables, lemonade, kettle corn and so much more.
Mar-Bal Makes a Difference
Team members from Mar-Bal, Inc. in Chagrin Falls joined together on a Make the Difference Day on July 12. In partnership with United Way Services of Geauga County, Mar-Bal employees volunteered at WomenSafe, a local domestic violence shelter and United Way partner agency.
Employees spent the afternoon assisting with landscaping projects. They secured a donation of mulch and annuals to brighten the grounds for all guests receiving WomenSafe services.
“WomenSafe has been so blessed to have community members offer their time to maintaining the grounds of our beautiful shelter and resource center. We thank them all for their efforts, smiles and energy,” stated Shayna Jackson, executive director of WomenSafe.
Juried Art Exhibition
The Cleveland West Art League will present a juried exhibition of art at Lakeland Community College July 29 to Sept. 13, with an artist reception on Aug. 10 from 6-8 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 440-525-7029 for more information.
Sounds of Summer
On July 30, the public is invited to enjoy an open air concert with the sounds of Latin jazz of the Mal Barron Trio. Bring a picnic and blanket to celebrate the sounds of summer in the display garden of the Holden Arbor-etum, 9550 Sperry Road in Kirtland.

Paul Newman, Chardon attorney and Geauga County Public Library board member, is throwing the opening pitch July 26 at the 7:05 p.m. Cleveland Indians game at Progressive Field against the Texas Rangers.
Geauga County Public Library is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The countywide library was established in 1963 after Indians owner Larry Dolan, then a library board member, made the motion to combine all county libraries into one cohesive system. Both Mr. Dolan and Mr. Newman are library Chapman Award recipients who share a passion for fostering strong community libraries.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Geauga County Public Library is offering $20 discount tickets (plus processing fee) for the game. The evening includes the additional attractions of dollar dog night as well as post-game fireworks.
