Health Fair

Kent State University senior nursing students, in collaboration with University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center and Geauga Growth Partnership, will host their annual Community Nursing Health Fair June 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at Kent State University Geauga Campus, 14111 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton.

There will be healthy snacks and free health screenings such as blood pressure checks, as well as opportunities to learn about how to better one’s health, family’s health and the health of the community.

Special presentations will be given by UH Geauga Medical Center. Teddy Bear Clinics for preschool through elementary school-age children will be given at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

NAMI Speaker Meeting

Anthony Niksa, clinical supervisor at Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers, will be the guest speaker at the NAMI Geauga County quarterly educational speaker meeting at 6:30 p.m. June 26 at the Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services building, 13244 Ravenna Road in Chardon. He will present “Mental Illness and Addiction: A Dual Diagnosis.”

Blood Pressure Screenings

Lake Health will offer free blood pressure checks at the Chardon Campus, 510 Fifth Ave., from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.


American Red Cross blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors may give every 56 days and must bring some form of photo identification and a list of all current medications.

From June 30 through July 7, all presenting donors will receive a commemorative Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.

July 3, Notre Dame Educational Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Double Reds available.

Family Health & Safety Day

The sixth annual Family Health & Safety Day will be held July 12, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, 13207 Ravenna Road in Chardon. The free event promotes healthy living by providing wellness screenings and education in collaboration with the hospital’s many community partners.

Wellness screenings include: sports physicals, vascular/stroke risk, dental, skin cancer, pain, orthopaedic, hearing, memory, depression and foot assessments. The event also features safety and wellness education stations and demonstrations.

New this year, “Run 4 the Ages,” a 5k run and walk in support of senior services in Geauga County, will precede the event at 9 a.m. at the Library Administration Building near the hospital, 12701 Ravenwood Drive. The 5k race will group runners by age and gender and is open to everyone from children to seniors.

Registration fees for the race before July 8 are $15 for adults and $10 for students. A registration form and complete race details are available by calling 216-752-5151.
