Trustee meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at the town hall. The next meeting is April 15. All township meetings are open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend. Call 440-636-5486 for more information.

Maintenance will be cleaning the cemetery and preparing it for Memorial Day services. Please remove any items that one wishes to keep. All old wreaths and items left at the graveside will be discarded.

No plantings are permitted. Artificial flowers or ornaments are permitted on the graves until they become weather beaten. The township is not responsible for damage or theft of such items and may remove them if they become unsightly.

The Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a hearing on April 7 at 7 p.m. at the town hall to hear an appeal by Mast Wood Products to increase the square footage of its present business.

Zoning Inspector Frank S. Corrao III wishes to remind all residents to obtain a zoning permit prior to making construction changes of any kind. Call the office at 440-636-5486, ext. 3 to leaving him a message; he will return the call.

The zoning office receives many complaints this time of year about debris blowing off properties onto neighboring properties. Now is the time to clean up unwanted items on one’s property.

Spring Cleanup

The Huntsburg Spring Clean Up, for township residents only, will be held on May 3 from 8-11 a.m. or until full. Bring items to the township recreational park, 17085 Mayfield Road.

Fees will apply. No items are to be left after that time.

Lawn waste, propane tanks and appliances with Freon will not be accepted. All appliances must have Freon removal tags – no exceptions. Call Appliance Repair Service in Burton at 440-834-8558 for Freon removal. Cost averages $70 to have them pick up or $35 to drop off.

Tire Recycling Drop Off

Tire recycling will be held for Huntsburg Township residents only. Passenger car tire drop-off will be held May 3 from 8-11 a.m. at the Huntsburg Recreation Park, 17085 Mayfield Road. Tires may be on or off the rims, but must be dirt and mud free – no exceptions. Grant funding provided by Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District.

Huntsburg offers several rental opportunities for family get-togethers. There are three outdoor pavilions suitable for family reunions, birthday parties and barbecues. Two are located at the recreational park at 17085 Mayfield and the other in the Memorial Park located at the town center. The pavilions rent for $20 for the day.

The town hall and community center are also available. The community center can accommodate more than 160 people and is air-conditioned. While there is no kitchen available, it does have sinks and a refrigerator. Rental fees vary with the use and number of guest; rentals are from $100 to $200 for residents.

The town hall is for smaller groups of 80 people or less and has a full commercial kitchen. The rental fee is $50 for summer months.

The Huntsburg gym has undergone a renovation and can be rented for basketball or volleyball use. The cost for a two-hour rental is $40. All buildings are now handicapped accessible.

Pumpkin Festival

Now is the time to think about growing that giant pumpkin. The 45th annual Pumpkin Festival will be held Oct. 4 and 5. For seeds and “How to Grow A Giant Pumpkin” instructions, please call Jerry at 440-636-5145.

Huntsburg maple syrup producers who would like to donate syrup for the pumpkin festival should call Nancy at 440-636-5197. We would love to show off all the fine syrup produced right here in Huntsburg.

Residents interested in joining the festival committee are asked to call 440-636-5197 for information on how to join.

Bring all unwanted catalogs, phone books, newspapers, school and office papers, magazines, paperback books and junk mail to the recycle bin at Huntsburg Recreation Park.

Huntsburg is working hard to be environmentally friendly. The recycling bin is here for the whole community to use. The township even earns money for the paper it collects. This way, residents can support the town and not have to reach into their pockets.

The recycling facility accepts cardboard. Shredded paper is accepted in clear plastic bags. Please put a small hole in the bag to allow air to escape, but not the paper.
