The Chardon Hilltoppers and coach Mitch Hewitt scored a stunning victory, 40-20, over host Canton South on Sept. 12. Since school was cancelled in Chardon due to the shocking news of T.J. Lane's prison escape, the team spent the afternoon at the Pro-Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

Free Plants and Shrubs

Peace Lutheran Church, 12686 Bass Lake Road, Munson, is offering free plants, shrubs, trees and bulbs, on Saturday, rain or shine, 11 a.m. until all are gone. Quantities may be limited.

There will also be free hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn and beverages. Monetary donations will be appreciated to benefit the parking lot fund.

BBQ at NDCL

The Sisters of Notre Dame will hold their annual Barbecue and Boutique on Sunday, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28, 12-5 p.m., rain or shine, at the Education Center of Notre Dame Cathedral Latin, 13000 Auburn Road, Munson.

There will be barbecue chicken at $12 and barbecue ribs at $15. There will also be raffles, a country store, ice cream and balloons. Tickets at the door. Take-outs available.

Geauga Family First Council

The Geauga Family First Council will meet at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Geauga County Job & Family Services, 12480 Ravenwood Drive, Munson.

The monthly meetings are free and offer support, understanding and help with family problems, as offered by various agencies in Geauga County.

Geauga Amateur Radio Association

The Geauga Amateur Radio Association (GARA) will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Geauga County Emergency Operations Center, 12518 Merrittt Road, Munson.

Meetings are open to all “Hams” and those interested in becoming familiar with this type of international “talk radio.”

Celebrate Recovery

The next meeting of Celebrate Recovery, a Christian 12-step addiction recovery program will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Morning Star Friends Church, 12550 Ravenna Road, Munson. At the Senior Center

The Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson, invites seniors to attend a site meeting to plan for the future at the center, Sept. 25, 12:30 p.m. Pre-registration is not necessary.

On Oct. 1, 12:30 p.m., Dennis Sutcliffe will speak on the 1920s era of the Jazz Age, when prohibition was enforced and the Cleveland Indians set their sites on a World Series title which was impaired by an unspeakable tragedy.

NAMI Geauga County

The National Alliance on Mental Illness/Geauga County (NAMI) presents Terry Russell, executive director of NAMI Ohio, as the guest speaker at its next meeting, Sept. 25, 6:30 p.m., at Munson Township Hall.

Russell, a mental health professional for over 40 years, will speak on the future of mental health care, what can be done to improve it and difficulties faced in the current environment.

Military Academy Information Day at Auburn Career Center

A Military Academy information day, sponsored by Congressman David P. Joyce, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at Auburn Career Center, 8140 Auburn Road, Concord Township.
