Historic Tidbit

March 17 is known as St. Patrick’s Day or “the wearin’ o’ the green.” It is celebrated in countries around the world with displays of shamrocks, leprechauns, parades and a favorite Irish meal of corned beef and cabbage.

The date actually marks the supposed death in 463 of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, born in Glasgow, around 373. He is said to have had miraculous powers and many legends grew about him, the most famous being that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all.
