Historic Tidbit
The world’s first digital Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC) was built by Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania in 1946. The ENIAC weighs 30 tons, uses more than 17,000 vacuum tubes and takes up more than 1,800 square feet, including the bushel baskets of spare tubes necessary to replace its quickly dying innards. Its computing power can be surpassed today by a digital wristwatch.
