Township Meetings

Eagle Scouts Honored
Casey O’Donnell and Mitchell O’Linn, members of Munson Boy Scout Troop 91, achieved the highest honor in scouting, that of Eagle Scout.
Casey’s Eagle Scout project was building and installing two trail head kiosks at Munson Township Parks: one at Scenic River Retreat and the other at Nero Nature Preserve.
Mitchell’s Eagle Scout project was designing and building a bench and garden on the north side of Chardon High School for students to enjoy a quiet place outdoors.
Munson Trustees honored Casey and Mitchell with resolutions acknowledging their achievements. The resolutions will remain in the permanent records of the township.
Munsonite Katie Featheroff graduated cum laude with dual bachelor degrees in journalism and psychiatry during spring commencement at Ohio University. She is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Katie, daughter of Sarah and Jim Featheroff, is a 2009 graduate of Chardon High School.
Child Advocates Needed
Court Appointed Special Advocates for Kids of Geauga County (CASA for Kids) is seeking volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children involved in Geauga County Juvenile Court. Applicants must be at least 25 years of age and have no criminal record.
CASA staff provides 32 hours of pre-service training. Application and interview must be completed prior to training.

At the Senior Center
National Hat Day will be celebrated Jan. 15 at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive in Munson. After lunch, prizes will be awarded to those wearing the funniest, prettiest and oldest hats. Stories behind the hats will be appreciated.

NAMI Speaker Meeting
The Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will meet Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Geauga County Board of Mental Health, 13244 Ravenna Road, Munson. The monthly meetings provide education, support and advocacy to those affected by mental illness and their families.

Food Addicts in Recovery
The next meeting of Food Addicts in Recovery (FAIR) will be held Jan. 15, from 6:30-8 p.m., at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson. FAIR offers support, nutrition information and encouragement to those who are making an effort to lose weight and remain healthy.
If one’s New Year’s resolutions was to lose weight, this may be the ideal place to start. The weekly meetings are free and registration is not necessary.

Save the Date
WomenSafe will host the 13th annual Casino Royale Feb. 8 at the Patrician Party Center, 33350 Lakeland Blvd., Eastlake. Doors open at 6 p.m.
