Thespians Present “Fiddler On The Roof Jr.”

The Newbury Thespians hit the stage with their rendition of the American classic, “Fiddler on the Roof Jr.” March 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. in the Newbury auditorium. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for students and seniors.

The cast builds on the high standards residents have come to know and love from their drama club. D.J. Quigley plays the role of Tevye, a poor milkman struggling to hold onto tradition and identity in an ever-changing and challenging world. Samantha Tayek plays Golde, Tevye’s headstrong quick-witted wife. This is Tayek’s fifth performance with the acting group.

When asked what this play means to her, Tayek responded, “I look forward to the whole group experience, drama club is filled with people who care about each other.”

Madeline Hoffmann agreed, adding, “this is my second family, drama is a place to detox after school, it’s a place to laugh, a place to express yourself.”

Other cast members include Sarah Houser as Yente and Cami Hamby, Maggie Kinkopf, Faith Harrison, Haley Surckla and Niamh Field as Tevye’s five daughters.

The epic musical is under the direction of retired Newbury teacher Pat Cataldo with musical direction from choir teacher MaryLois Stanziano.

“We’ve always had this core of talent year to year, that has never changed the kids are always dedicated,” said Stanziano about the production.

In addition to the excitement of the performance, the Newbury Educational Foundation has put together a reunion for past drama club students. Interested alumni can contact Kimya Matthews at 440-223-8091.

Please join the Newbury Thespians as they bring history to stage and continue the school’s long-standing fine arts tradition.
