Old Timer’s Luncheon Honors Loretta Mae Holmes
Loretta Mae Holmes will be honored at the Old Timer’s Luncheon April 25 at Chardon Methodist Church. Cost is $12.
Please call the Geauga County Department of Aging for information.
Loretta began volunteering at the Old Timer’s Luncheon back in 1954. In 1970, she took over the duties and has run this event ever since. The Golden Wedding luncheon was held separately at that time and in 1978, the two events were combined to what is now known as the Golden Old Timer’s Luncheon.
For years, Loretta also counted money for the Maple Stir Booth and worked in the festival office. At one time, the stir booth was located at the end of the main tent on Short Court Street and one could buy a maple stir for only 15 cents. She also volunteered at the Producers Hall of Fame Luncheon for many years and in 1999 was presented with a plaque thanking her for her service and dedication to the producers.
Loretta held the position of vice president on the festival board and her favorite things about the Maple Festival are the maple stirs and the parades.
A retired special education teacher for the Cleveland Heights School District, over the years Loretta has volunteered at the Geauga Senior Center, the Harold I. Holmes VFW in Chardon and numerous charities.

Spring has finally sprung with great weather and crocuses popping up all over. The birds seem to love it as their songs grow louder and more beautiful every day.
Get ready for the Maple Festival taking place April 25-28. It will be fun for all.
I am sorry to hear of the passing of the following famous people from the entertainment world to the fashion scene, to the realm of Christianity and to the political sphere — Annette Funicello from the Mouseketeers, Palm Beach tropical print dress designer Lilly Pulitzer, evangelist Rick Warren’s son’s untimely death, and the famous Iron Lady herself, England’s Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. May they all rest in peace in God’s splendor.
