Best Bets For Birding

Geauga Park District welcomes anyone interested in some seasonal bird-watching guidance to Best Bets for Birding Geauga: Winter Wings on Nov. 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

Senior naturalist Dan Best will provide an illustrated overview of birds found in Geauga County during the winter, featuring year-round birds that come south to winter here, and will tell participants where to look for rare and irregular winter visitors.

Registration is not required.

A Little Night Music

Nature in Music: A Little Night Music is Nov. 15 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Observatory Park, 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township.

Naturalist Linda Gilbert will host the evening of guided listening, playing recordings of classical music beneath the projected stars of the planetarium and explaining how aspects of the music portray some extramusical scene, bird or image of the night.

The program is geared toward adults; registration is not required.

Wild Days of Winter

Enjoy the holiday life-size game board where families discover through interactive play the many things that nature gives people in winter. The theme of the game is guided by the holiday song, The Twelve Days of Christmas.

In addition, a craft, activity pages and scavenger hunts are fun for the whole family. Reminisce with family and friends over favorite childhood board games through a retro exhibit of classic games from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

The exhibit opens Nov. 23 at Penitentiary Glen Reservation, 8668 Kirtland Chardon Road in Kirtland. It continues daily from noon to 5 p.m. through Jan. 5. Different free activities will run from 1-3 p.m. every Saturday.
