GEAUGA PARK DISTRICT

For more information, contact the park district at 440-286-9516 or visit www.geaugaparkdistrict.org.

Park Closure

Geauga Park District’s Big Creek Park in Chardon Township will be closed to the public for four days in January for the purpose of a controlled hunt.

Rangers will block public entrance to Big Creek Park, 9160 Robinson Road, Chardon, Jan. 4 through Jan. 7 for safety reasons. This will also disable access to the park’s Donald W. Meyer Center.

Controlled hunting has been used since the 2007-08 season to maintain healthy, balanced populations of plants and animals on park district properties. Time has proven it a viable management tool and a proactive approach to the park district’s mission.

All Geauga Park District buildings will also be closed New Year’s Day; unscheduled closures are always posted on WKYC and WEWS in Cleveland.

Decorate Lots Of Socks Tree

Tucked within the Meyer Center in Big Creek Park, the Lots of Socks for Tots tree has worn visitors donated new socks, mittens and booties as ornaments since 2007.

This special tree will remain up and accepting donations weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 27 at Big Creek Park, 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon Township. After that, all items will be donated to Geauga County Department of Jobs and Family Services for year-round distribution.

In a typical year, the tree collects more than 100 pairs of socks, some mittens and some hats.
