The Butterfly Effect

In 2013, Geauga Park District’s Natural Resource Management staff and volunteers completed their fifth year of butterfly surveys at Frohring Meadows, Observatory Park and the Oakton Preserve.

During these cold days of winter, enjoy some spring and summer learning how these surveys are conducted, why they are important and what they mean, plus see pictures of the cool butterfly species that have been discovered so far.

Research in Our Parks: On Gossamer Wings takes place Jan. 19 from 3:30-4:15 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

Naturalist Linda Gilbert said the purpose of these transects is to collect baseline data on the butterfly species using these areas, and then monitor changes in this data over time.

Registration is not required.
