Rock ‘n’ Roll on the Square
Chardon Kiwanis members will greet community members with a smile as music from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s and ’80s fills the air on June 21 from 7-9 p.m. on Chardon Square. The live band will be a real treat just like the polka band was last week. Kiwanis helps set up and “supervise” the programs throughout the summer.
Don’t forget to stop by the farmer’s market on Short Court Street from 4-8 p.m. on Fridays. Last Friday, there was homegrown asparagus, baked goods, hamburgers and more. Check out Creekside Crepes for some good crepes. Coffee, soda and popcorn are also available next to the Log Cabin.
Cycle 2013 Ride United
Ride United is a fully supported one-day bicycle ride traversing the city streets and Towpath Trail from Cleveland to Akron and back. All routes begin at East 21st Street on the Cleveland State University campus at 7:30 a.m. on June 23. Routes include 12, 25, 40, 80 or 100-mile options.
Registration includes a fee and a minimum fundraising requirement. Register today at Helmets are required and breakfast and lunch is supplied to participants.
The event benefits United Way of Greater Cleveland and United Way of Summit County.
CUMC Community Dinner
Chardon United Methodist Church on North Street will offer its monthly community dinner on June 23 from 12:15-1 p.m. A good-will offering is taken, but not necessary. The church offers a free dinner the fourth Sunday of every month.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Wilson Mills Road also provides a community dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month. The next dinner is July 7.
Birthday Wishes
Happy belated 90th birthday greetings go out to my dear friend Frank Irwin this month; his wife Jackie was my best buddy at Chardon High School when I taught English at the school.
Birthday greetings also go out to my son Bill who will celebrate his birthday on June 22.
Brady Johnson will turn 6 years old on July 2.
