Second Quarter Terrific Kids
Mr. Corrigan, the owner of Mangia! Mangia!, is treating those students at Newbury Elementary who have been “NICE” during the second quarter to a special lunch. Newbury’s NICE students are those who demonstrate in their words and actions: Integrity – they did the right thing no matter what; Cooperation – they worked well with others daily; and Excellence – they were the best they could be everyday.
Students, teachers, parents and community members nominated elementary school children to the Kids with Character Club and eight children have been selected to go to lunch.
A special congratulations goes out to the following NICE Newbury Black Knights: in the grades K-3 building: Michelle Elliot, Landon La Plante, Kelly Morris and Isabelle Magill; and in the grades 4-6 building: Brandon Rincon-Salas, Caleigh Hamby, Hannah Grubbs and HannaRose Brastoff.
Congratulations again. Thanks, students for making NICE matter at Newbury Elementary School.
Music in Our Schools Concert
Fourth, fifth and sixth-grade music students entertained their parents, grandparents and friends March 13 at their Music in our Schools concert. Directed by Mrs. Stanziano and Mr. Tyrrell and accompanied by Mrs. Henry, students sang and played different instruments.
Fourth-graders played five recorder selections and then sang four songs from around the world. Fifth-grade students sang three different songs, including the Newbury favorite, “Fifty, Nifty, United States.”
Sixth-grade students played four selections on their bells and sang, “Free at Last.” The elementary chorus, comprised of fifth and sixth-graders, sang two songs.
Thank you, Mr. Tyrrell, Mrs. Stanziano, Mrs. Henry and the students for all their hard work in making this a memorable concert and thanks, to the parents, families and friends who came to listen.
The 2013 Cinderella Luau Ball was held March 9. Eighty-three girls and their dads or significant others attended the PTO-sponsored yearly event.
Each girl received a lei to go along with the luau decorations and theme. Mr. Morton and Mr. Piekarski won the escort prizes of a tackle box and a contractors box donated by Let’s Go Travel.
The highlight of the afternoon was when the escorts demonstrated the chicken dance for all the girls.
Thanks, Mrs. Wilson and her helpers who organized the event; to each of the girls and dads who attended; and to Christina, Emily and Sarah for being greeters and door attendants. A wonderful time was had by all.
