Chore and Home Maintenance
The Geauga County Department on Aging’s Chore and Home Maintenance Program can assist seniors with the maintenance of their homes including the adaptations for disabilities. Programs are designed to meet health, safety, fire prevention and/or ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) adaptations.
Certain criteria must be met in order for the department on aging to provide services. Call 440-279-2130, 440-564-7131 ext. 2130 or 440-834-1856 ext. 2130. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for qualification information and/or to schedule services.
The nonemergency programs are for Geauga County senior citizens. Should there be a need for immediate assistance, such as loss of heat, outside normal business hours, seniors are responsible for the cost and for contacting a vendor who can assist with the problem or repair.
All phone calls for any chore and home maintenance assistance must be initiated first by calling the department on aging directly, otherwise the cost will not be covered by the department on aging.
The chore program has volunteer workers who provide routine home maintenance such as window washing, leaf raking, trimming bushes and limited yard maintenance.
Home maintenance program contracts with professional workers to provide home maintenance such as plumbing, heating and cooling and electrical work. All contracted services must be approved and authorized by the department on aging.
Summer youth program has youth workers who provide routine home maintenance such as yard clean up and window washing. Call the agency directly for qualification information.
