Strategic Plan Process Update
Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools Continues its Strategic Planning Process
At the Sept. 3 Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools Board of Education work session, Superintendent Robert Hunt presented the board members with an overview of the district’s strategic planning process.
It will be the third time the district has gone through the process to develop a five-year strategic plan. The administration has already begun gathering information about student achievement, demographics, technology and finances. The strategic planning team will continue the process in the fall by assessing the needs of the district and the recently completed community survey. It will hold focus groups with students and staff.
“Our district has embarked on a strategic plan to create a shared and clearly articulated vision and mission for the future of our schools,” said Hunt. “We look forward to involving and engaging as many community and staff members as we can to create this comprehensive plan.”
A community meeting will be held Oct. 22 at the Performing Arts Center from 7-8:30 p.m. to discuss the community survey results and current school data and to present an overview and invitation to participate in the strategic plan process. All are welcome to attend.
The committee will then meet Nov. 18 and 19 to conceptualize the plan, develop a vision and identify goals.
In December, the Core Strategic Plan Team of key administrators and stakeholders will refine the goals and develop a strategic plan action team. In January and February, that team will investigate options, costs and resources and develop action steps. The final strategic plan will be presented to the board for a vote in April 2014.
College Application Boot Camp
On Aug. 28, the Chagrin Falls High School seniors participated in a focus day that jump-started their senior year and the college application process. It was the second part of a program that began late last spring when the students concentrated on writing the college essay.
The morning began with a presentation by Shannon Beach delineating the senior research project, and a college application overview by Jennifer Newton. Students completed a graduation audit and each took the OCIS Career Inventory using the new high school Chromebooks, which is the first step in beginning research that will tie in to the senior project in May.
The rest of the day was devoted to work sessions for students to focus on a variety of tasks, including fine-tuning their resumes, editing their college essays, filling out college applications and consulting with the high school counselors.
The day culminated in the Performing Arts Center with a skit on proper college interviewing techniques performed by students Tom Collins and Grace Juergens.
