Organization Meetings

At the Senior Center

Volunteers are urgently needed for the Geauga Fall Cleanup Days to help seniors who can no longer maintain their yards. Weather permitting, the event will start Oct. 25 and continue through November. Volunteers will be assigned close to their homes or they can choose another area. Call Bob Debevits, coordinator, at 440-279-2130.

Memory Screening Day will be held Nov. 19 at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson. Sponsored by the Geauga Department on Aging and University Hospitals Medical Center, seniors are offered a free 15-minute memory screening test. Advance registration is required by calling 440-279-2130.

WomenSafe Benefit

A “Fashionist Affair” to benefit WomenSafe will be held Oct. 27, from 12-3 p.m., at the Wildwood Cultural Center, 7645 Little Mountain Road in Mentor. The event, sponsored by the Junior Women’s Club of Mentor, includes a fashion show by Francesca, demonstrations of arts and crafts, raffles and more.

Tickets are $20 per person and are available by calling 440-942-5991 or 440-667-1533.

Proceeds benefit the services and accommodations offered to victims of domestic violence at WomenSafe’s Green House on Ravenna Road in Munson.

Halloween in Munson

Hours for door-to-door trick or treat in Munson are 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 31. The safer alternative is the Halloween party with games and refreshments at the Munson Township Fire Station, 12200 Auburn Road. The free, fun-filled family event is on Oct. 31 from 6-9 p.m. Costumes are encouraged.

Free Sunday Dinner

St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson, will offer a free Sunday dinner Nov. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Room. There will be a choice of soups, breads, and desserts.

Donations are not necessary, but appreciated. To help prepare or serve the dinner, or for more information, call 440-285-4641.

At The Rookery

A Great Blue Heron Hike will be held Nov. 3, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., at the Geauga Park District’s Rookery in Munson. The one and one-half to two-mile guided hike will head off-trail to the site of the heron-nesting colony while the herons winter down south.

Historic accounts indicate this rookery has existed 70-100 years. Dress for the weather and muddy conditions at the park.

Voting Nov. 5

To verify one’s polling location for the Nov. 5 general election, contact the Geauga County Board of Elections at 440-279-2030 or stop in at the BOE, 470 Center St., Bldg., 6-A, Chardon.

Mapletown Squares

The Mapletown Square Dancers will hold their next dance Nov. 8, from 8-10:30 p.m., at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson. Callers will be Ken Campbell on squares and Charlie Brown on rounds.

Wear square dance clothes and comfortable shoes. Beginners are welcome.

Genealogical Society Meets

The public is invited to an interesting lecture at the next meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society (GCGS) Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Bostwick Room of the Chardon Public Library. Molly Sergi, professor at Kent State University, will speak on “The Second Great Awakening: Religion and Culture in Geauga County.”
