Congratulations

Munsonite Brady Kaucic, a junior at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, is one of five northeast Ohio students whose research completed as part of the Cleveland Clinic’s Summer Internship Program was recently on display at the Great Lakes Science Center in recognition of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Brady’s project dealt with pediatric/childhood obesity, which she hopes will contribute to the prevention of this increasing problem.

Absentee Ballots for November 5

Absentee ballots are available for the Nov. 5 general election at the Geauga County Board of Elections, 470 Center St., Building 6-A, Chardon. Call the BOE to request a ballot at 440-279-2030 or download at the BOE’s website, www.co.geauga.oh.us.

It is an important election year for Munson Township. There are four candidates running for two seats on the Board of Trustees, a fire levy renewal and a road levy renewal.

One vote can make a difference.

At The Rookery

EZ Go cart tours are offered to those with limited mobility on Oct. 16 at the Geauga Park District’s Rookery in Munson. Each interpretive tour lasts 30 to 45 minutes.

Reservations are required by calling 440-279-0880. Ride are available from 10 a.m. to noon.

YMCA Basketball Leagues

Registrations are being accepted for the Geauga Family YMCA’s fall basketball league, which starts Oct. 28, for 4-year olds through high school age at the “Y,” 12540 Bass Lake Road, Munson. A new travel league will also start which is more competitive and will travel to different “Y” locations to play.

Tickled Pink Shopping

The Friends of WomenSafe are hosting a fun filled day at the Tickled Pink Shopping Extravaganza Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Kent State University Geauga Campus in Burton. There will be jewelry, clothing, purses, cosmetics, candy and more for early Christmas shopping. Admission is $1; children under 12 are free.

Proceeds benefit the accommodations and services offered to victims of domestic violence at The Green House on Ravenna Road in Munson.

With the Arts

A unique art show featuring the beautiful motion-themed photography of the Shutterbugs Camera Club will open Oct. 27, from 2-4 p.m., at the Geauga Park District’s West Woods Nature Center. All are invited to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments. Artwork will be on display through February 2014.

Food Addicts in Recovery

Food Addicts in Recovery will meet Oct. 16, from 6:30-8 p.m., at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson. The weekly meetings offer support, nutrition information and encouragement to those who are making an effort to lose weight and remain healthy.

Geauga Family First Council

The Geauga Family First Council will meet at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services, 13244 Ravenna Road, Munson. The monthly meetings offer support, understanding and help with family problems as offered by various Geauga County agencies.

Meetings are open to the public. Pre-registration is not necessary.

At the Senior Center

The Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive, Munson, will hold a tribute to our veterans on Veterans Day Nov. 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. A continental breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. Harry Guinther, a World War II veteran and former prisoner of war, will share his story at 10:15 a.m., and lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

After lunch, veterans will be introduced and at 1:45 p.m., weather permitting, veterans will gather at the Geauga Veterans Memorial for a moment of silence and a group picture.

The event for veterans, their wives and surviving wives is courtesy of the Chardon Senior Center and Chardon Healthcare. Others are $10 per person. Reservations must be made by Nov. 1.

Please note: All Geauga County Senior Centers will be closed Oct. 14 in observance of Columbus Day.
