Munsonite Jerry Arko III received a B.S.B.A. in business management and marketing during spring commencement, was named to the dean’s list and graduated with cum laude honors. Jerry, the son of Jerry and Jill Arko, is a graduate of Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin.

Fall Cleanup Days

Fall cleanup days start for Geauga County seniors Oct. 12 by the Geauga County Department on Aging. Volunteers are urgently needed to help older homeowners who need assistance with taking care of their yards. Rental properties are not included.

Volunteers and senior homeowners should call the department on aging no later than Oct. 12 at any of the following numbers, 440-279-2130, 440-564-7133 ext. 2130 or 440-834-1856 ext. 2130.

Scholarship Funds Raised

The Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin Golf Classic in August raised $20,000 for scholarships and tuition assistance at NDCL. This was a record raised by the 31 sponsors, 127 golfers and others who participated in the games and raffles during the event.

Celebrate Recovery

Morning Star Friends Church, 12550 Ravenna Road, Munson, offers a weekly Christian 12-step addictions recovery program and fellowship every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

A meal is served at 6:15 p.m. The meetings are free.

Military Academy Info Day

Congressman David P. Joyce is sponsoring a Military Academy Information Day Sept. 21 at 9:30 a.m. The event is open to all area high school seniors at the Auburn Career Center in Concord.

Representatives from each of the U.S. military academies will speak with students and families about the academies and application process. For information, call Maureen Jeffrey at 440-352-3939.

Fundraiser for WomenSafe

WomenSafe extends an invitation to a sit-down brunch catered by Dinos on Sept. 29 from noon to 3:30 p.m. at the Pine Ridge Country Club, 30605 Ridge Road in Wickliffe. A special treat will be a narrator from the Western Reserve Historical Society who will present a visual experience of shopping in downtown Cleveland in the early years. There will also be a Chinese auction.

Tickets, by reservation only, are $38 each. Proceeds benefit the free accommodations and services offered to victims of domestic violence at WomenSafe’s Green House based in Munson.

With the Arts

Ursuline College extends an invitation to attend the opening of a solo exhibition of the work of artist Thomas Salomon, In Memoriam: Response to the Unanswerable on Oct. 3 from 5-9 p.m. at the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery located at 2550 Lander Road in Pepper Pike.

There will be more than 40 pieces in a variety of mixed media on the theme of the Holocaust in Europe. The event is free; refreshments served. The exhibit continues through Nov. 7.

Register to Vote

Munson Township has an important election on Nov. 5. There are four candidates vying for two chairs on the Board of Trustees.

Businessmen James McCaskey and Arthur Hollis are challenging Andrew Bushman, seeking his third four-year term, and Todd Ray seeking his sixth four-year term. Also on the ballot will be two renewals: a 1-mill, five-year fire levy and a 2-mill, five-year road levy.

Be sure one is registered to vote, particularly if a new resident of Munson Township or have changed one’s Munson Township address. Also, verify where one will be voting.

Geauga County Dog Shelter

Please consider making either a monetary donation or dog food and treats to the Geauga County Dog Shelter, 12513 Merritt Road, Munson. If mailing a check, use Chardon 44024.

The shelter does not receive county real estate tax money; it operates on private donations, adoption and license fees.

Call 440-286-8135 for shelter hours or if one sees or finds a dog that appears to be lost.
