Munson Township’s first Munson Notables were Helen M. Stewart and Ruth Osmond Hawkins, who were honored at the first Notables reception Nov. 18, 2003. Helen will be celebrating her 103rd birthday Sept. 13. She was named a Notable for her service to our country during World War II and volunteer work with several organizations in Geauga County. She enlisted in the first unit of the U.S. Navy’s Women’s Auxiliary (WAVES) and served from September 1942 to June 1946. Subsequently, Helen became a physical therapist until her retirement when she started writing. Her poetry was published in a book, “I Shall Be Old.”
Best wishes to Helen M. Stewart for a very happy 103rd birthday. She is inviting friends and family to her home to celebrate her birthday on Sept. 15. The open house is from 12:30-2 p.m. No gifts, please.
Geauga Amateur Radio Assoc.
The Geauga Amateur Radio Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Geauga County Emergency Operations Center, 12450 Merritt Road in Munson. The monthly meetings are open to all who are interested in “ham radio.”

The Chardon Toastmasters extends an open invitation to attend its area contest on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Geauga Park District’s West Woods in Novelty. The contest will feature Juel Leonard, winner of the “table topics” contest, and Marilyn Harmon, winner of the “humorous speech” contest. Refreshments served at 6:30 p.m.

Fall Fish Sale
The Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (GSWCD) will hold its annual fall fish sale Sept. 24 on the midway of the Geauga County Fairgrounds. Orders are currently being taken for a variety of fish.

Geauga Humane Society invites everyone to Woofstock 2013, the largest one-day, outdoor fundraising festival for dogs and people in Northeast Ohio. The event is Sept. 22, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Holden Arboretum.
There will be adoptable pets, a Blessing of the Animals at 9:30 a.m. and more. The $5 parking fee covers admission, with proceeds donated to the society’s Rescue Village.

Vendor Space Available
Friends of WomenSafe will hold their Tickled Pink Shopping Extravaganza Oct. 12 at Kent Sate University Geauga Campus in Burton.
Vendor space is still available for the annual fun event suitable for all ages. Proceeds benefit the free services offered to victims of domestic violence by WomenSafe.
