Chamber Meeting

The Middlefield Chamber of Commerce meeting was held at 5:30 p.m. April 8 at the Middlefield Fire Department, with dinner catered by Crossroads Country Cafe.

Dr. Scott Hunt, superintendent of Cardinal Local Schools, and Andrea Pollock, director of Next Step, presented “The State of Our Schools.”

The program was very interesting. Dr. Hunt presented new information on where we were with our schools, where we are now and future plans for the schools.

Treasurer Merry Lou Knuckles presented information on how school budgeting works. She extended an invitation for community members to call her with any questions about the budget at 440-632-5886.

Andrea Pollock is retired from Cardinal Schools and is now director of Next Step, working with young people who were in the foster care system, aged out and now learning to live on their own. Meeting guests found that there are needs of almost everything in this program. This program depends on the support of governmental grants as well as community and corporate contributions.

The Next Step program is open to donations and volunteers. For information, call 216-990-0524 or email to apollock@fcsohio.org.

Generous Donation Received

A quiet and generous donation was given to Cardinal Schools’ Pay to Play program.

Judy Breedlove, owner of Crossroads Country Cafe, created a new and delicious “Husky Burger” named in honor of the kids’ teams at Cardinal. Judy pledged to donate a portion of the money that came in for Crossroads Country Cafe to the Pay for Play program. She kept that promise and at the Chamber meeting, she quietly approached Dr. Hunt with her donation check.

Thank you, Judy, for being dedicated to the community and for being generous to its youth.
