Searching Family Trees

Alan Rabe, area family history advisor for the LDS Family History Centers in Northeast Ohio, will present "Family Search with Family Tree" at the Nov. 13 meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society.

The free program will begin after the 7 p.m. business meeting at the Chardon Library, 110 E Park St. in Chardon. All are welcome.

St. Anselm Christmas Boutique

St. Anselm's Women's Guild is sponsoring its annual Christmas Boutique Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Anselm Church, 13013 Chillicothe Road in Chesterland.

The boutique features more than 80 area vendors, snack bar, bake sale and raffle for several beautiful prizes. The $1 donation for admission entitles guests to a chance to win a door prize.

7th Annual Santa Shoppe

Claridon Girl Scout Troop 1324 is looking for crafters and vendors for its seventh annual Santa Shoppe to be held Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Claridon Town Hall at the corner of U.S. 322 and Claridon-Troy Road. Tables are $20 each.

Beekeepers Meet Oct. 25

The Geauga County Beekeepers Association will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 in the gallery room at Kent State University - Geauga campus, 11141 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton.

Guest speaker Roy Hendrickson will discuss bait hives and winter feeding.

The evening includes a bake off; bring recipes. The public is welcome.

Trunk or Treat

Lighthouse Church will host a Trunk or Treat Oct. 30 from 6-8 p.m. at 14780 Mayfield Road in East Claridon. Walk car to car in the parking lot for treats. Hot dogs and drink will be provided.

In case of rain, the event will be inside. All are welcome.

Chardon Kiwanis Trivia Night

The Kiwanis Club of Chardon is hosting its fifth annual Trivia Night at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Kirtlander Party Center, 9270 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland.

There will be a fully catered meal, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, prizes and snacks, plus a trivia game to challenge everyone's knowledge. The winning team of eight players will win a cash prize.

CARE Ethnic Dinner, Auction

Citizens Advocating Responsible Energy (CARE) is hosting an ethnic dinner and silent auction fundraiser Nov. 17 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Montville Community Center, 9755 Madison Road. Admission to the all-you-can-eat dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 and free to children under 6. No reservations are required and carryout is available.

St. Anselm's Women's Guild will have their annual Christmas Boutique on Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in St. Anselm's Kelly Hall and Anderson Hall.

Ladies Night Out

The Auburn Firedevils are hosting a "Ladies Night Out" at the Adam Hall on Nov. 3 from 6-10 p.m. Enjoy light refreshments with beverages, fellowship and shopping with a variety of consultants.

Chinese Auction In Parkman

The Kayla Irene Daniels Cure for Cancer Foundation will be holding its fourth annual Chinese auction Nov. 3 at the Parkman Community Center. Doors open at 3 p.m., with the auction starting at 6 p.m.

The auction features hundreds of items up for bid with more than 200 valued at $30 to $300 or more each.

Bluegrass Jamboree

There will be a Bluegrass Jamboree, featuring Vertical Limit, Young & Blue, Coney Carver and the Rainbow Valley Boys, at Hambden Grange Hall on Oct. 27 from 7-11 p.m. The hall is located at the corner of routes 6 and 608, four miles east of Chardon.

Veterans Day events

Burton-Middlefield American Legion Post 459 Color Guard will present the colors at the Geauga County Veterans Memorial site located on Ravenwood Drive on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.

Then, Post 459 will host an all-you-can-eat chili and soup dinner from 4:30-7:30 p.m. The dinner is free to all veterans. The Atwood-Mauck Post is located at 14052 Goodwin St. in Burton.

WomenSafe Hosts Clambake

WomenSafe will hold its first annual clambake on Nov. 3 at the Ramble Inn, 10311 Kinsman Road in Newbury.

Tickets are $35 per person and will consist of one dozen clams, half a chicken and two drink tickets per person.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and diner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The event also features sideboards, a 50/50 raffle and door prizes.

Only 100 tickets will be sold. To purchase tickets, call Annette Phillips at WomenSafe at 440-286-7154 ext. 248.

All proceeds generated will be to WomenSafe, an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence in Northeastern Ohio.

Cat Adoptions

Rescue Village has dropped adoption fees to 50% off for all cats and kittens now through Oct. 31.

Winter animal camp

Rescue Village is offering its annual Snow Melter at the Shelter winter camp Dec. 27 and 28. The hands-on camp is for children 9-11 and runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Fee of $65 is due at time of registration. Lunch is included. Activities will be held indoors as well as outdoors.

Hanusosky Benefit Brunch

An all-you-can-eat pancake, sausage and hash browns breakfast will take place Oct. 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Parkman Community House, 16295 Main Market Road. Proceeds will go toward the Hanusosky family's medical bills incurred after falling from a tree stand earlier this autumn.

Cost is $9 for adults $9 and $4 for children 12 and under. Hosted by NorthEast Community Church of the Nazarene.

GEL Breakfast Nov. 2

Tips and Tactics to Retain Valuable Employees will be the topic at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (GEL) breakfast Nov. 2 from 8-9 a.m. at the Kent State University - Geauga Campus, 14111 Claridon Troy Road in Burton.

Stuart Watson, president of Truline Industries, will discuss why Truline was chosen as one of the best workplaces of 2012.

Church Offers Turkey Dinner

A turkey dinner will be held Nov. 3 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 14780 Mayfield Road in East Claridon.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under and free for preschool age and younger.

Free meals also will be offered to all military veterans, police officers and firefighters.
