Community Support at Mary Yoder's Dec. 8

Mary Yoder's Amish Kitchen is reaching out to help those who may struggle to enjoy the holiday season. On Dec. 8, beginning at 3 p.m., Mary Yoderï's will be hosting a Chinese Auction Benefit, with all proceeds from the auction going to support Shop With a Cop and the food pantry in Middlefield.

Along with the auction, guests will enjoy a boxed lunch which includes a choice of a chicken salad sandwich or a ham sandwich, chips and a cookie. Coffee and punch will be provided also.

Bidding is from 3-5 p.m.; the drawing begins at 5 p.m.

Admission tickets, which include the boxed lunch and 10 complimentary auction tickets, are on sale for $15 at Mary Yoder�s or online at www.maryyodersamishkitchen.com.

Xmas in Thompson

Christmas in Thompson Craft Show is Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ledgemont High School, 16700 Thompson Road, Thompson.

Enjoy the work of area crafters, a Chinese auction and dinner provided by the Ledgemont senior class.

Free admission with donation of a non-perishable item for the food bank.

Holiday Boutique

The 13th annual Holiday Boutique at Liberty Assisted Living takes place Nov. 30, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Dec. 1, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be crafts, Lia Sophia, quilting, stained glass, photography, baked goods, knitting, hostess gifts, much more.

No entrance fee to shop and many reasonably-priced items.

Santa Shoppe Nov. 7

Claridon Girl Scout Troop 1324 will be holding its seventh annual Santa Shoppe Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Claridon Town Hall at the corner of U.S. 322 and Claridon-Troy Road.

Come out and shop from the many crafters and vendors. Santa will be there from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Free drawing throughout the day.

Pancakes at Hambden Grange

Hambden Grange #2482 is serving an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with maple syrup, corn fritters, sausage, juice, cocoa and coffee on Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Grange is located at 9778 Old State Road in Hambden.

Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

Men's Breakfast at Federated

The Men's Ministries committee of the Federated Church of Chagrin Falls announces a Saturday Men's Breakfast Nov. 17 from 8-10 a.m., at the Family Life Center, 16349 Chillicothe Road.

The event will feature a talk on The Sandwich Generation by David Schell, executive director at Breckenridge Village. This important topic about taking care of older parents while still taking care of one's own children is pertinent today.

All men are welcome to attend and the cost is $10. Call Federated Church, 440-247-6490, to make a reservation.

CARE Ethnic Dinner, Auction

Citizens Advocating Responsible Energy (CARE) is hosting an ethnic dinner and silent auction fundraiser Nov. 17 from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Montville Community Center, 9755 Madison Road. Admission to the all-you-can-eat dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children 6 to 12 and free to children under 6. No reservations are required and carryout is available.

Shop Christmas Boutique

St. Anselm's Women's Guild is sponsoring its annual Christmas Boutique Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Anselm Church, 13013 Chillicothe Road in Chesterland.

The boutique features more than 80 area vendors, snack bar, bake sale and raffle for several beautiful prizes. The $1 donation for admission entitles guests to a chance to win a door prize.

Good Samaritan Dinner

The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be held Nov. 14, from 5-6:30 p.m., at the church on the square in Burton. The cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.

The homemade meal consists of meat, two sides, bread, dessert and beverage. Takeout is available by calling 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Proceeds go to meet emergency needs of local families.

Chili Cook-Off

Relay for Life of Chardon is kicking off the 2013 campaign with a chili cook-off and celebration for returning teams and anyone interested in being part of Relay for Life. The event is Nov. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chardon VFW Post 6519 located at 752 Water St.

Amish Mennonite Craft Show

The annual Amish Mennonite Craft Show takes place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at Joe's Window Shop at the corner of Route 168 and Shedd Road.

Free admission. More than 40 vendors.

Bainbridge Historical Society

Join members of the Bainbridge Township Historical Society for a review of basic genealogy research on Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the town hall. Tracing one's roots is fascinating and rewarding. Participate with Cheryl McClellan from the Geauga County Library system for a fascinating one-hour PowerPoint presentation about genealogy.

Bring vital information about one's family, including names, birth dates of parents and grandparents and watch how their lives can be traced on the Internet. Meetings are open to all.

Geauga County Master Gardeners

Master Gardener Phyllis Mihalik will lead a class on creating table top Christmas trees made from nature's bounty. The class is Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at Geauga County OSU Extension Office, Patterson Building, 14269 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton on the Burton Fairgrounds.

Learn how to use professional floral materials and prepare dried materials from the garden, then make a table top Christmas tree complete with decorations. All materials and light refreshments provided.
