Good Samaritan Dinner
The Burton Congregational Church, UCC, Good Samaritan Dinner will be held Feb. 20, from 5-6:30 p.m., at the church on the square in Burton. The cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-11 and free for children 3 and under.
The homemade meal consists of meat, two sides, bread, dessert and beverage. Takeout is available by calling 440-834-4495 the day of the dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Proceeds go to meet emergency needs of local families.
Open Community Giveaway
Feed My People Inc., an outreach ministry of the community, is having an open giveaway of clothes, household items and toys for families in need. It will be hosted Feb. 14 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Feb. 16 from 9-11 a.m. at the Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road across from E-check.
Tax deductible cash contributions can be mailed to Feed My People Inc., 401 South St. #4B, P.O. Box 82, Chardon, OH 44024.
Church of St. Mary's Fish Frys
St. Mary's of Chardon will be hosting its annual Parish Lenten Fish Fry dinners, featuring an all-you-can-eat buffet menu during lent.
Dinners will be served Fridays, Feb. 15 and 22, and March 1, 8, 15, 22 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Banquet Room.
All proceeds go to St. Mary's School "Adopt a Studentï" tuition assistance fund. Cost is $12 adult, $6 children ages 6-12, and free children 5 and under.

Casino Trip for After Prom
Berkshire After Prom Committee is hosting a casino trip Feb. 24 to Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Erie, Pa. Cost is $35 per person and includes $35 free slot play.
Lakefront Tours will pick up at 9:30 a.m. at Berkshire High School for arrival at the casino by 11:30 a.m. Depart casino at 4:30 p.m. and arrive back at school at 6:30 p.m.

Geauga Beekeepers Meet
The Geauga County Beekeepers Association will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 in the gallery room at Kent State University Burton Campus, 11141 Claridon-Troy Road.
Speakers Cathy Widing will discuss Musco moisture refractometers and Dave Paterson will discuss package bees.
Refreshments will be served. The public is welcome.
Pasta Dinner Benefit
The Pullin' for Aut - Austin Hunt pasta dinner benefit will be held Feb. 16 from 4-7 p.m. at the Middlefield Market Pavilion. Tickets are donations of $25 for a couple or $15 for a single. Tickets are available at The Flag Store in Newbury, Capps Pizza in Claridon, The Frank Agency in Middlefield or Flip Flop Cove Tanning in Middlefield.
There will be a Chinese auction, number boards, silent auction, 50/50 and many door prizes. All raffles begin at 7 p.m.
The benefit is to help the family of Austin, a 15-year-old boy from Burton suffering from T-cell lymphoma, with medical expenses.

Mac & Cheese Cook-Off
The Geauga County Democratic Women's Caucus is hosting a Mac and Cheese Cook-Off contest on Feb. 23, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the Geauga Democratic Headquarters, 12024 Kinsman Road in Newbury. The event will be followed by the movie, "Inconvenient Truth."
Admission fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10 years.
Challengers must submit registration forms by Feb. 20.

Safety Council To Meet
Geauga Safety Council meets March 1 at Grandview Golf Club, 13404 Old State Road, Middlefield. Guest speaker is Leslie Harris from the American Red Cross regarding preparedness with demonstrations on CPR and AEDs.
Registration begins at 11:15 a.m. The meeting ends at 1 p.m. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

Frac Free Geauga Meeting
Frac Free Geauga, a grass-roots group of concerned citizens, is meeting to discuss the current controversial subject of horizontal hydraulic drilling "fracking." The group will meet at the log cabin on the square in Chardon at 7 P.M. Feb. 19. All are welcome to join in the conversation.

Gardening 101
Master Gardener Joe Banzer will present Gardening 101, a plan for a successful garden utilizing raised beds for higher yields in smaller areas with less work. Topics include construction of raised beds, soil improvement, soil testing, fertilizers and plant selection. Conventional gardening will also discussed.
A handout with all presentation slides and references is included in the registration fee of $15. Send check payable to OSU Extension, PO Box 387, Burton, OH 44021.
Preregistration is encouraged, but walk-ins are always welcome.

Resale Store Needs Donations
The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop located at 102 Cherry St. in Chardon is in need of quality donations. High quality, gently used clothing, housewares, home decor, jewelry and small furniture items are accepted. Also needed are formal gowns for the upcoming prom season.
The Discovery Shop is an upscale resale store dedicated to supporting the fight against cancer. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society for research, education, advocacy and service programs.

Citizens Advocating Responsible Energy (CARE) spring fish fry dinners scheduled for February and March have been canceled.
