2013 Conservation Poster Contest Has Kicked Off
Wednesday, March 13, 2013
The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) has proclaimed April 28 - May 5 as Stewardship Week, marking the 58th year of the national event. In celebration, Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring the 2013 Conservation Poster Contest.
The theme is Where Does Your Water Shed? Our fresh water supply is limited and it is important to understand where water goes after humans use it.
The fresh water supply is constantly being recycled and everyone lives in a watershed, a body of land, which has water flowing over, under and through it, all draining to a larger body of water such as a lake or river.
The purpose of the contest is to instill in youth a connection to the watershed and need to protect and manage precious fresh water resources. The contest is open to all students from public, private and home schools.
Posters must measure between 8 1/2- by-11 inches and 22-by-28 inches and must be submitted to the Geauga SWCD office at 14269 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton, on or before April 26.
The Geauga SWCD is offering a $30 first prize and $20 second prize in each grade level category: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The first place winners in each category will move on to the area competition, where they will then have an opportunity to move on to the state competition and then national.
