A 24-year-old Chardon man was killed at 7:25 a.m. this morning in a two-car crash at the intersection of Auburn and Sherman roads.

Nathan Petersen, 24, was pronounced dead after being lifeflighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Petersen was traveling eastbound on Sherman Road in a 1993 Ford Escort, according to the Chardon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

He stopped at the stop sign at Auburn Road and then pulled into the path of a 2002 Jeep Wrangler that was traveling southbound on Auburn Road, the highway patrol said.

A Munson Township rescue crew transported the driver of the Jeep Wrangler, 41-year-old Brian Danison of Chardon, to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights. He was treated and released, the highway patrol said.

Both Petersen and Danison were wearing safety belts, the highway patrol said.
